SALT: Trump, Big Beautiful Tax
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in State Politics in the United States
WTF? 1. How does the federal IRS (CRA) calculate how much state sales tax a person paid? 2. Huh? 200K - why, God wish. In Canada, this would mean that if the provincial government taxes me, and if I earn more than 200,000, I could reduce my federal tax by the amount I paid to provincial tax. Heck, Quebec already does this. -

Kennedy created the Peace Corps. Trudeau Snr did the same with OFY. They both wanted to duplicate their Trust Fund life.

You ask for evidence as to whether or not they redo the riding and then you provide maps showing they redrew the riding. Are you trying to be funny or something? At any rate the additional areas are not traditionally conservative supporters there traditionally liberal and you can look at the history of the voting and the area to see that. that created an opportunity where a percentage of the people were not used to voting for him already. As to the NDP issue bruce fanjoy who won the riding has talked about all these issues extensively and you can see his interviews on the net. He was very clear that he'd been working for 2 years going door to door putting in the effort but wasn't really getting anywhere, right until trump came along with the 51'st state stuff. Then things changed radically and the left coalesced behind him and people "new" to the riding due to the redraw really responded and he says it was largely the fear of trump. So what appears to have happened is that the CPC did regular polling in the area and didn't see a huge cause for concern even tho numbers were down a little, and then trump changed things and they didn't pick up on it till it was too late. I have little reason to doubt fanjoy's account. So the riding was redrawn, then the ndp and libs got together over fear of trump, and PP was in trouble and nobody caught that till about half way through the election, Prove that. The guy who won there said that trump was the person that scared the people. Why do you think he was lying? Not relevant to the issue at hand. Poilievre added about eight points to the previous cPC tallies, if he was doing so badly how is that possible Hey. Dipshit. I asked you a simple question I have taken the time to answer yours and you are dodging mine like a true liberal supporter. So I don't really believe you when you say you were for the conservatives. You sound like you're for the liberals and you're dodging simple questions instead of answering them like any honest conservative would If Poilievre did so bad, how did he manage to get a larger percentage of the vote share than any other conservative leader and almost every other liberal leader going back 40 years? Are you going to answer that or you going to p**sy out again?

Canada Sustainable? Challenger Jets vs ICE Cars

Note to people who fly economy to Cuba: Your CO2 emissions are about the same as if you drove the same distance in a car alone. Many people have no car, but they fly. -
Well they're envisioning things like cutting back severely on third-party consultations cutting back the civil service and eliminating a bunch of other discretionary stuff. Like I say that's the good news budget Sure. But money doesn't come from thin air. We can make the changes necessary and grow our economy to the point where we can afford what he's talking about. But we cannot do that in the time frame that he's thinking of. Please expended to 2% was already a burden. Something like an extra percent on top of that every 3 or 4 years would have been doable but what they're proposing is simply unaffordable. We would have to eliminate programs like old age pensions and Healthcare and things that just won't fly A valid enough criticism but you just simply cannot go from zero to 100 in one second. If you do you will wind up destroying our economy which means they're really won't be any money to find the military. You can waive the flag all you want but there are real world consequences to spending and to our economy. And if there is no economy there's no military. raise taxes until we start running a balanced budget...it won't be long before Canadians start asking to cut social programs... And just so we are clear it is the Federals responsibility to look after and maintain all of security apparatus, to ensure canadians are protected, thats the deal ..."before" we start adding social programs...and if the PM wants to sign us on to all these big fancy defensive agreements so Canada can play with the big boys you got to be able to pay that bill....if not stay at the kiddy table...and stop acting like we are something we are not....it is really that simple... I find it funny we want our young men and women to defend the country, put their life's on the line for the nation, and other Canadians, but Canadians don't seem to be able to find the funding or time to support our military....to equip them with the proper equipment to do the job...., we should just shut it all down....one drone 2 newfies in a rowboat armed with slingshots, and an old station wagon with the roof cut off as a tank....,it's not like we really take our sovereignty seriously anyways...or we would not be in this predicament... let some other nation take it over....trump would love us to be the 51 st state.... It looks like we have created a conundrum...we don't want to pay our security bill....and we hate trump...who is going to protect us...maybe the EU... China seems interested We can have a military and we can afford to fund the military we just can't afford to find what he's promised. Or at least not as fast as he's promised. It's not a matter of what Canadians want. You just can't do that. It would trash the economy and if there's no economy then there's really no money to pay for military Somewhere in between nothing and 5% within three or four years there's a number that would make sense that we could achieve which would be substantially higher than what we have been doing. we have to be real about it

What is not hilarious, but becoming tiresome, is how you leftists repeat this lie over and over and over again. Obama was setting records for deficit spending at the time and when Biden took over he was spening more in deficit than Trump was... Like I said, this is just some partisan talking point for you. Just lies to push your usual leftist biased false garbage.

Canada Sustainable? Challenger Jets vs ICE Cars
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Note to Quebecers: Norway produces neither cars, nor jets. And it's not part of the EU. Norway, as Parizeau wished, has its own currency. ===== In Norway, a kwh is about 4X the price in Quebec. Norwegians do not waste their resource at home - they sell it abroad, -
In Canada's single payer system you have a group of low lifes who sit on welfare clog up the hospital beds because they are either doing hard drugs or abusing alcohol or morbidly obese. Meanwhile actual tax payers wait months to access health care they pay for because they have to serve the entitled welfare recipients first. Pretty pathetic system

Canada Sustainable? Oil vs Milk

Additives? Gimme a break. ==== Here's your tell kids: Have you ever noticed that grocery stores have TWO very separate cheese sections? -One section -close to margarine- is for the standard Canadian 400g Cheddar/Brick/Mozzarella. -Another section in the store -closer to the deli- is for the high-end Oka, Brie. -
Is Poilievre screwing up again?
August1991 replied to Barquentine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Coward? Barquentine, I have not read through this thread. ====== Mackenzie King lost a seat, and then ran in the same election, to become PM. Mulroney lost, then ran in Nova Scotia, and won in Quebec. Pickersgill was parachuted. Welcome to Canadian politics. ===== What strikes me about Poilievre is that he's like Nixon (or Clinton). He comes back. -
Is Poilievre screwing up again?
Moonlight Graham replied to Barquentine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Liberals had led the country into the worst state its been arguably since WWII/Depression era. PP let some political rookie come in and take the election from him. The CPC were up in the polls by at least 10 points since late 2023 until Trudeau resigned and Trump opened his dumb fat mouth. On Jan 1st this year the polls were 45% CPC, 20% Liberals, 19% NDP. https://338canada.com/polls.htm -
Why did they disagree? Both were federalists. In general, we Canadians get along.
