Shakeyhands Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/230318 For three of the eight hours, Noor and her eldest sister Rukia, 32, were held in solitary holding cells. After asking repeatedly why they had been detained, they were laughed at by U.S. border officials. "You have no rights here," they were told. "You came to us."Their rooms had a chair bolted to the floor, a wall-mounted surveillance camera and an alarm that sounded every 30 minutes. They were searched by border officials wearing gloves, the women said, as well as being fingerprinted and photographed. "It's one of those bizarre things that you never think is going to happen to you," Noor said. They were told it was a random inspection, she said. While I understand that the US has every right to determine who they will admit to their country, I find this a bit disturbing. And not knowing all the circumstances.. well. Will the Gov't launch a formal complaint and should they? Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche
noahbody Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Including Mohammed Elmstry in this story and having him characterize the incident as racial is a solid example of piss-poor journalism. From http://www.montrealmuslimnews.net/transcript.htm : "COREN: Anyone over the age of 18 in Israel is a valid target. ELMASRY: Anybody above 18 is a part of the Israeli army... COREN: So everyone in Israel and anyone and everyone in Israel, irrespective of gender, over the age of 18 is a valid target? ELMASRY: Yes, I would say." My only complaint is "why is this guy still in the country?" Quote
M.Dancer Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 ELMASRY: Everybody above 18 is a combatant. How old is this POS's grandparents? Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

August1991 Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Are you surprised? Bureaucrats of the Canadian government have refused many people entry to Canada, either as visitors or as immigrants, for many years. The no-fly list poses a similar problem. Banks now simply refuse to accept some people as customers. Airlines will refuse to fly some people. We all discriminate in our daily lives. We choose. If 19 Muslims hijack four big planes and succeed in flying three of them into big buildings in North America, are you surprised if North Americans are suspicious of Muslims afterwards? Quote
gc1765 Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Banks now simply refuse to accept some people as customers. Airlines will refuse to fly some people. Banks and airlines do not detain potential customers for 8 hours, and treat them they way these people were treated. It's one thing for the U.S. to refuse entry to their country, that is entirely understandable...but what's the point in detaining them for so long when there was no reason to believe they are a threat? How would you feel if I owned a bank and you walked inside and I arrested you? Quote Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable. - Jeffrey Sachs (from his book "The End of Poverty")

If 19 Muslims hijack four big planes and succeed in flying three of them into big buildings in North America, are you surprised if North Americans are suspicious of Muslims afterwards? I am surprised. This is pure and simple discrimination against an identifiable group, something that is clearly in contrast to our charter of rights and freedoms. Yes, it happened as these four women were trying to cross in to the US for shopping, as thousands and thousands of others do without detention or delay everyday. Where are Harper or MacKay on this? bush_cheney2004 Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Formal complaint for what? Not sharing the pizza (with "unclean" meat)? This story is short on facts...the Charter of Rights does not apply at US border crossings. It is the duty of border agents to "discriminate". See "Ahmed Ressam". Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Canuck E Stan Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Milgo Noor had an appointment at 3:30 p.m. this past Sunday to look at bridesmaid dresses in a Buffalo bridal shop. Is the financial savings so great for these dresses that it pays to rent a car from Toronto and go to Buffalo and return, just to look at bridesmaid dresses?
