If you're man enough to go to war, man enough to throw a grenade, man enough to kill, you're man enough to be punished for it.

You don't say the same thing about any other child soldier. The only thing that sets this child soldier apart from the others is his ethnicity and the fact that he killed an American. Edited by cybercoma

Fact, what fact? There's no more fact in this statement than there was justice in the process that came to this conclusion. It will not stand in Canada's justice system and that is a fact.

Wait didn't this guy kill someone? Why is anyone shedding tears for him?

That was never proven, and the evidence that he didn't throw the grenade was suppressed:

Omar's father forced him to become a child soldier.

The fact that Omar can't profit from publication is irrelevant. The movie will be made and it will be apparent that Canada was a party to the violations of his rights and the suppression of the truth.

The movie will be made

And nothing prevents Omar from playing the lead role for free. Of course, the producers would have to seek out a cherub to play the part of Omar the child. With any luck, the movie would be shot in downtown Toronto.

The movie sure couldn't be shot in the States; I have to wonder if any American company could make it. No matter how it's presented, it's going to look bad for Canada. At the very least, it's going to make Canada look as if it gives refuge to terrorists/parents who raise terrorists.

If somebody doesn't finish the job on him first. Just sayin...

I think he should be released back in Afghanistan for Predator drone practice...maybe give him a 20 minute head start. Film it for a reality TV show starring young Omar. Hell, it could be a whole series watching Khadr hide from the evil drones each episode....you know...like The Fugitive.

I think you're onto something, here. Team him up with Snooki and The Kardashians for that romance element.

Narrator: Will Omar find love in the desert or a 30mm DU slug? Find out after Dancing With the Stars only on ABC.

That would work out swell....have the series end with Khadr confronting Dick Cheney on his fifth heart transplant death bed...."Omar...I am your Father!"

If it's CBC mind you it would be more like this...

Narrator: Tonight on the Omar Khadr Show, Omar's guests are Libby Davies, Hedy Fry and Defence Minister Peter McKay. Plus, there's Al Kaeda and his Khadr Show Band. All up next after the National.

Wrongo,Sport...

What sets this child soldier apart is that he took advantage all the things this country affords him, took off for Afghanistan with his spectacular father, and, fought for the enemy side...

I will agree with anyone that says he was probably indoctirnated by his parents with their ill conceived belief system,however.....

This simply does not change the facts...

If he is to be repatriated, then fine...It should long enough to have Omar and his admitted "Al Qaeda family" rounded up,citizenship revoked, and, put on the next plane to lovely and scenic Kabul...Where they can play out thier clueless family ideology with impugnity...

My mistake, he grew up under the same conditions as those of say the average child soldier in Africa...you really don't get tired of saying the most ridiculous things, kudos to your persistence.

With impugnity? Really?

I am not my government. The current and previous governments should be ashamed of themselves. Canadians should be furious at the blatant hypocrisy of allowing a child soldier to be arrested and detained for so long.

And yet curiously, we aren't... not even a little.

Why don't you start making voluntary payments to the little tyke when he comes back, buy him a Kalashnikov or two?

Yeah...Really...

Who's going to stop them??

Pakistan???

Let them live thier "Al Qaeda" lifestyle in a place where it seems to work...We simply do not need these types in this country at all....

There will be a parade for him, I'd imagine. Similar to Kuntar's. Lot's of supporters for wee Omar.

Imagine the irony if he blows himself up in the middle of a cheering group of NDP supporters...

Why not be furious and ashamed that the government allowed - and still allows - the parent(s) who 'forced' a child to be a soldier to live the good life in Canada? At the tax payers' expense. Free of charges. You think that's an ok thing to do - raise a child soldier to take up arms against Canada/its allies? It's against international law. So who do you think should be held accountable? A man is dead. Not in battle, but in the situation where Omar could have surrendered. But for the actions of the US military, Omar likely would be dead. They saved his life with medical attention. So do tell. What do you think would be /would have been the appropriate thing to do?

You're not going to like the answer to this any more than you did last time you asked it but so be it.

Charge them for indoctrinating a child soldier into a war, to the hilt, and give responsibility for Omar Khadr's welfare over to our health system and child services.

But here's the problem, if you acknowledge that he was a soldier you also acknowledge that he was indoctrinated into an army which upends the legality of virtually everything we've said and done since 9/11. Especially regarding the treatment of POW's.

Child services for a convicted murderer that is over 21 years of age? I see some people think Omar is still 15 years old.

Do you see the problem American Woman?

It upends everything, God help our leaders if DOP is proven wrong in living memory. That said history will vindicate Omar Khadr soon enough. I expect one day we'll name schools after him.

O.K. as in the past tense. The question arises. Would our child welfare services have been equipped to deal with a case of a teenager indoctrinated into the Khadr type terrorist mentality?
