sharkman Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Grand opening, grand closing. In some poorly worded comments that will diminish any chances of his winning the democrat nomination, Joe Biden, in describing Obama, called him the first main stream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice looking guy. Putting aside that many blacks have been in politics and are at least as articulate(Powell, Rice), a characterization of 'clean' in descrbing a black person has raised eyebrows all over Washington. Predictably, Al Sharpton and the Reverend Jesse Jackson have had little to say against Biden, as has most of the media. He's on their team after all. And this is not the first time Biden has talked himself into trouble. Here's a recent quote: “You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.” Can you imagine what the media's response would have been to that had Jeb Bush said it? It would have lead the news for a week solid. But in this case, the Main Stream Media, Sharpton, Jackson etc, have spent much of their time trying to drown out the shock expressed by those on the right side of the aisle. And, of course, if a Republcan had said it, the world would have ended, CNN would be bringing live updates and Jesse Jackson would be getting his freaked out on. The left's shoulder shrug is sooo hypocritical. Quote
August1991 Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 It wouldn't be the first time his presidential campaign was cut short. A proven accusation of plagiarism can have serious repercussions for a candidate's political ambitions. Just ask Joe Biden. His borrowing of a British politician's campaign speech is perhaps the most famous instance of political plagiarism, illustrating both the dangers of unacknowledged language lifting as well as the extent to which one's enemies will go to torpedo their opponents' chances for success. blackascoal Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Sharkman, I guess you didn't actually read the article because in it Jackson clearly takes issue with Biden's remark and stated that he got more votes than Biden during their run for the presidency. He correctly descibes the race for black votes that all democratic candidates will be racing to get and he declares that he is on Obama's team, not Bidens'. Undoubtedly, there will be much more said about Biden's remark from the black community, which stretches a lot farther than just Jackson and Sharpton. It's already the talk of black talk radio. By the way, both Powell and Rice recognize that they'd be nothing more than a side show if they ran for president and Powell has ruined whatever little chance he had along with his credibility by his UN deception .. and he has said as much. Of course, this is the same guy who was involved in the MyLai cover-up during Vietnam. Biden explains, apologizes for comments http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070201/ap_en_tv/biden2008 excerpt ... Backpedaling furiously, Sen. Joe Biden said he really meant to say "fresh" instead of "clean" in describing Democratic presidential rival Sen. Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record).Appearing on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" late Wednesday, Biden said: "Look, the other part of this thing that got me in trouble is using the word clean. I should have said fresh. What I meant was that he's got new ideas, he's a new guy on the block ... " But then Biden trailed off as he stared into Stewart's deadpan face. "It's not working, right?" the Delaware senator asked to much laughter from the show's audience. In an interview published Wednesday in the New York Observer, the same day he officially entered the presidential race, Biden described Obama as "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy." The Illinois senator spoke privately to Biden and later released a statement saying he didn't take his colleague's remarks personally, but objected to the way they seemed to undercut past black presidential candidates. "Let me tell you something I spoke to Barack today," Biden told Stewart. "I bet you did," Stewart quipped. "I also spoke to Jesse (Jackson) and Al Sharpton," Biden said. "And Michael Jordan and anybody you could get your hands on. The Jackson Five," Stewart said, interrupting. "Michael didn't call me," Biden said. "Look, what I was attempting to be, but not very artfully, is complimentary. This is an incredible guy. This is a phenomenon." Biden is yesterdays news and had absolutely no chance of winning even before this latest knucklehead remark. The bad news for Biden is that he'll never become the POTUS .. the good news is that there is a spot waiting for him in the Michael Richards "Keep Hope Alive Tour". Quote
Black Dog Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I hope I'm the first to propose Obama adopt this as his campaign theme song. Quote

That's what I was referring to. in America, we spell it d-o-g s-h-i-t - as far as I'm concerned, Joe stepped in it sufficiently about 15 years ago when he let an unqualified, immoral and totally inapropriate slug pass thru the gate to the bench of the SCOTUS no, Joe, I think you have some nice qualities but you won't get my vote - you're too big a member of the old boys network - we need a new direction Quote “Most middle-class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal” - Benjamin Spock MD
Drea Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 I briefly saw Obama speak on TV last night. He's da man. American's are not yet ready for a female pres and Obama appeals to the young, the old, the black, the hispanic and the fed up. Hillary would be best off jumping on Obama's bandwagon and supporting him. Quote ...jealous much? Booga Booga! Hee Hee Hee
