Ricki, I wasn't just railing on Harper. But I chose him due to his big pre-election rant on cleaning up Gov't. I feel his negative ads qualify as indecent just as much as the Lib's soldiers one. He has no credibility with me, not only because of the ad but due to his unethical behaviour (Emerson and Fortier). If that's politics, then I feel we need a huge change.

Ahhh, there is the rub.

The Conservative Party of Canada spending its own money on contrast ads is completely separate from Government. They are not spending Government money to run these ads and nobody is accusing them of doing so.

Yes, it is politics. How is this change going to come about?

Seriously, Canada probably has some of the cleanest campaign finance laws in the developed world.

You are never going to see all the major parties adopt the high road purely for human nature. The winner is always the one who plays smartest, works the hardest and gets their vote out. Taking the morale high ground when your opposition doesn't is not smart...

I saw one this afternoon, thought it was funny. I think even Dion will find it funny. It is sense of humour time folks..............:):D

We'll see how funny the electorate finds it.

I have 1000% confidence that Canadians will see them as funny. Even libs will have a good laugh. Time for thick skin.....

I guess I'm an eternal optimist then. One thing I would like to see is a financial cap on campaign advertising and no lobbying. You would think maybe that Harper might take J.C.'s example and turn the other cheek. :)

Then this must seem hilarious although I find it juvenile. We'll be seeing more of this I'm sure.

The spending limits that are in place during elections are pretty strict.

That is why the Conservatives are running these ads now. Lotsa money in the bank. IIRC they actually finished the last election with cash in the bank. That would have been unheard of before Chretien's reforms.

It did make me laugh.

The lame attempt at saying the Conservatives are a broken record with accountability while continuing the scary scary scary on health care and GW Bush. The intellectual bankruptcy of the Canadian left makes me laugh.

Made me laugh too. The CPC is not aclling Dion a nazi, they are just poking a little fun. It is very light folks, look at some US attack ads. Iggy does most of the work in the ad. I can think of a lot whorse. The libs whole "soldiers in our streets" ad, that's good lets turn the people against their army for votes.

I can't get away from these commercials...I am watching the Habs game now and they're retiring Dryden's number and I am thinking of that last commercial

(BTW I will always love Dryden but I AM SO ANGRY he became a Liberal sell-out).

How do you expect anyone to take you seriously when you foolishly paint entire parties with the same brush? So, Ken Dryden wants to get into politics. Maybe he doesn't feel conservative, he doesn't feel socialist, he doesn't feel separatist. So... I wonder how many major parties that leaves...

So he felt corrupt?

Perhaps you would like to go after his looks now.

They can't really go after his looks when their own leader looks like a ventriloquist's dummy.

Strange coincidence that the CIA's nickname for Dick Cheney is Edgar (as in Bergen).

Plus I remember when Emerson crossed, a lot on the right said that you only vote for the man anyway.

I never have been a big fan of Emerson and wasn't crazy about what he did. That being said, he's performed admirably in government so far...I still wouldn't trust him as an ex-Liberal though.

As for Dryden, still figuring out why he did what he did...liked him better in goal than spinning the Liberal myths of Canada.

Has anyone noticed how some media outlets are actually REPORTING on ads that haven't even been shown yet? On Global they called them attack ads and offered nothing but biased conjecture about them. I'm getting tired of the media telling the voter what to think.

They are not a news story, they haven't even happened yet. I don't need to hear what some schmoe at Global thinks about it.

They've been shown. All three are available on the CPC website.

The media did the exact same thing for the Liberal attack ads before they came out during the 2006 election campaign.

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

What's a guy who doesn't follow the polls doing launching pre-emptive strikes on an opponent when it's not even election time? Must be the same reason he decided to do a 180 on his environment policy "out of the blue"....

Fear is very unbecoming in a leader. It showed in Martin's face too and now it shows in Harper's.

I'm gonna get blasted for even bringing up this name, but Chretien was the master of showing no fear. Hate him all you want, but his confidence is something every politician envies.

What you say about Chretien is correct. But do you honestly see the same level of fear in Harper or is it just wishful thinking?

Martin looked pathetic when he went on National TV to beg for more time for his Government. Nothing Harper has done has approached that level of deer-lost-in-the-headlights weakness....
