jbg
Beautiful and overwhelming. How senseless. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).
August1991
Many names on a screen. Europeans list names and believe it will create peace. Have you ever walked around a battlefield or cemetery in Europe? They say that Europeans are civilized, sophisticated, peaceful - Europeans are from Venus, Europeans seek compromise. Europeans understand life. They say that Americans are uncivilized, base, warlike. Americans are from Mars, Americans don't understand nuance. Americans are simplistic. On the contrary, Europeans kill - Europeans are a violent race. Their cemeteries are full of war dead. Napoleon, Hitler, Kitchener, Stalin, Churchill. Murderers. Tsi Nikayen' Enonhne'
She:kon! While I appreciate the sentiment of remembering those who died when the Twin Towers collapsed, I wonder where the lists of people (whose names are forgotten) who have died as a result of the poverty perpetuated by those financiers and stockbrokers who worked at the World Trade Centre? And where are the names of people who died as a result of malfunctioning equipment, flawed vehicles and poisonous pharmaceuticals to which the manufacturers tried to hide their culpability? The people who died are not heros they were unfortunate victims in a rebellion against the western interference in mid-eastern politics. I abhor the treatment these people have received in their deaths as the reluctant advertisers of illegal war, and as money makers for grubby advertisers sponsoring everything 911 in order to make a buck. If we were truly sorry for the deaths of these people, then there would be no war and any commentary, documentary and news on the rememberance days would have come without profit or gain. I understand this sentiment. You come from a failed, conquered people who never amounted to anything. So I understand how you would sympathise with the failed peoples of third world nations who have produced corrupt cultures and corrupt, brutal governments which have little interest in protecting or caring for them. The people who died are not heros they were unfortunate victims in a rebellion against the western interference in mid-eastern politics. I also remember when people were enamored with Trudeaumania and thought everybody was happy because the government spent money. Charles, I am not trying to sound like a nit-picky jerk, but can you explain how more than 50% of your income goes to taxes? I looked at the revenue Canada tax rates: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/individuals/faq/taxrates-e.html , and the highest I could come up with was if you were living in Newfoundland and you made more than $118k a year, then it seems like you would be paying 47% income tax, but not all of your income would be taxed at the same rate as there are different levels of taxation at different levels of income. I suppose you could include the taxes on your purchases, and that could effectively increase the amount of taxes you pay to be more than 50% of your income, but thats all dependant on how much you spend, not how much you earn. The job of corporations is to make money. One must never expect them to do or be anything but businesses which make money. To accuse them of trying to profit too much off others, of taking advantage, is like accusing water of being wet, or snow of being cold. I don't blame them for being what they are. I blame corruption on those whose lack of honor has them forsake their duties in order to get donations, legal or otherwise, from corporations. I don't, in other words, blame the ad execs who bribed the Liberals. I blame the Liberals. And I don't particularly blame corporations which funnel money to fat-arsed third world dictators. I blame the fat-arsed third world dictators - holding them to the same standards as I do everyone else. If these are the best leaders the third world can raise up that bespeaks a terrible failure in their cultures and values. But that's not my fault nor the fault of corporations which simply act as they will always act - to maximize profits. The king of Swaziland is building a dozen huge palaces for his multiple wives while his people starve and die of AIDS. Is that the fault of western insurance executives? Here in Canada the 50% tax rate on income tax is just a little after $60,000.00 yearly income.
