Concern about the weird US relationship with Israel is spread across the political spectrum now. Why does such a wealthy country still need subsidies and why does reasonable debate about it by Dem pols trigger massively funded primary campaigns against them?

Why is it weird?

Yes, there is horseshoe theory, where the fringe right and left come around together on some issues. In this case, it is much more of the left than the right.

We get benefits of technology sharing from Israel, their support and bases when needed, and a democracy in the region.

It isn’t reasonable debate about funding that triggers massive campaigns, but the radical anti-Israeli positions that do, and there is nothing mysterious about it, the PAC is no secret nor is it a secret than many Americans do in fact support supporting Israel and Nate to that end.

No conspiracy.

Fair enough, but I created this thread to talk about the DSA lunatics.  There's enough Israel stuff everywhere else.  Just like the TDS nonsense, it seems to permeate everything and ruins the point of the thread.

As Democrat and Liberal governments fall, Republicans and Conservatives come to the rescue.

How is this obvious?

None of what you said is obvious. It’s the conspiratorial garbage you have to go to Candice Owen’s or Tucker Carlson to hear.

Complete side note but what the hell happened with Candice Owens anyway? I don't pay a ton of attention to the right-wing talk show circuit in the states, I used to listen to ben a fair bit but things are busy enough up here that is hard to catch his shows regularly.

But last I saw Candice Owens was a treasured right of center personality that was on the Ben Shapiro show lots and made all of the rounds with the usual right-wing podcasters etc, and now as I understand it she's like public enemy number one to the right

I know it's off topic But I'm kind of curious as to what happened there

I’m not and never have been a fan of hers, but this was the evolution as I’ve seen it:

-Charismatic up and coming pundit on the right, podcaster

-Popular enough to be part of Daily Wire efforts to become right wing powerhouse of news and commentary

-October 7th happened, started to go off fringe conspiracy anti-Israel rhetoric, increasingly pushing limits and boundaries of what Ben Shapiro could tolerate, from promoting discussion to outright bordering on antisemitism/ tropes / public feuds with Ben

-Fired from Daily Wire and started going down rabbit hole of conspiratorial nut job stuff, more extreme

-Charlie Kirk killed, Candice completely lost her mind, promoting all sorts of BS day in and day out attacking Erica Kirk and Turning Point and going the Tucker route of pro Russia, pro Putin, anti America, hate Trump…

Bizarre. I never listen to her much, she always had a bit of a religious tone and it's just isn't my cup of tea but it's surprising she went off the rails that bad. I guess it goes to show with a little success and power can do to the wrong person

Well that's not going to happen until he gets this stupid war sorted out one way or another. I don't think anybody believes him when he says the street is open anymore, it's been open and closed and open and closed a dozen times. Now they're saying there's a deal in place and it'll be open again but honestly if I owned an expensive ship I would not be sending it down the street or news right now

Next week's deal will be that they agree to only attack each other and ships on the straight during days with an r in it or some such damn thing :) "it's friady! Launch!"

But if he does clear it up then there's a good chance that has the economy bounces back if it recovers sufficiently people will forget this incident

I hope so. If its closed any longer, the Republicans are in trouble.

The Democratic party in the US is being torn apart right now by internal strife.  I've heard Joe Biden called all kinds of things, most of which are true, like "idlot", "sleepy", "Dementia Joe" etc, but "Genocide Joe"?  That's a new one.

Biden needs to sit down and relax in a rest home. I don't know why in the hell this guy is still shuffling around and getting lost on stage.

The Dems are so brimming with hate that I guess it was just a matter of time before they all turned on each other.

It's obvious Israel has us by the balls somehow, but so do other countries like Somalia and Ukraine. What we need to do is expel all foreign influence in our government. Once our government is represented by REAL Americans, we can shutter most of our doors and get busy WITHIN our borders. If a city, state or federal official starts weeping like Emma Lazarus or some other crazy marxist socialist, we immediately remove their asses from office.

Part...a big part...of the problem with US politics, is the donation rules. Citizens United stuck a shiv in the back of their election process. Mail-in ballots stuck another one in...and everyone knows it.

Citizens United made it actually legal to outright buy politicians. Americans express their dismay and discontent with their political landscape in different ways. Some are "MAGA"...some are Tweenkies...some are a bit o' both...but most Americans are so sick of the blatant corruption, that they just ignore it. A lot of those people don't even vote.

This is the Democracy Libbies think they need to save. But save for who? You? No. The politicians' bank accounts. That's who.

Everyone who follows politics is mad. Angry at the system. In this polarized atmosphere...that is the commonality that needs to be explored.

Because simply tearing it all down for hate's sake...would be rash, childish and stupid.

America can get those benefits from Israel in a normal relationship. It’s got most of the cards in this particular situation. And as for a democracy in the region, does that really matter?

Clarity on the pro-Israel PACs in Dem primaries is frequently withheld - both at the donor level and the relationship with AIPAC - at least until after the election. The ads targeting critics of Israel often have nothing to do with Israel at all. In other words, the people running these campaigns are fully aware how unpopular Netanyahu is with Democratic primary voters. Of course, if they succeed they often start crowing about it then to intimidate other politicians. I don’t think that model will work on the Dem side any more.

Why isn't this a normal relationship?

Well, if you don't think Democracy is good, I don't care to sit here explaining that concept to you. You are too far gone.

It seems you hate free speech as much as you apparently do Democracy. Yes, people are free to speak and support the candidates they choose, to donate to causes to do the same. The point is that it is the people in America supporting these things.

PAC's are not allowed to accept money from foriegn governments. When folks like you push this conspiratorial fear mongering bordering on anti-semitic tropes about how the Jews control things, or how Israel controls things... that simply is not based on the facts.

How did Citizens United make it legal to outright buy politicians?

Citizens United was a ruling about how just because people are part of a corporation, they do not lose their speech rights, including those to support policies, laws, and politicians they choose.

So obvious you can't explain how they are bought off.

If you stand on the street corner with a sign to support a cause or politician, are you buying them off?

I already explained it to you... the concept works like this:

If you and 1,000 of your buddies get together and form an organization that makes widgets, just because you are recognized as a corporation doesn't mean you no longer can buy ads to support laws and politicians you do, as opposed to if you had a widget club and made widgets not recognized as a corporation...

Huh...then how does this happen if its all so innocent?

"USA v. Householder et al.: In July 2020, then-Ohio Speaker of the House Larry Householder, along with several associates and Generation Now, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, were indicted in a federal racketeering conspiracy involving approximately $60 million paid to Generation Now by electric utility FirstEnergy to pass and uphold a billion-dollar nuclear plant bailout. The Justice Department alleged that Householder and his allies conspired to violate the racketeering statute through honest services wire fraud, receipt of millions of dollars in bribes and money laundering. According to prosecutors, one of the purposes of the corrupt scheme was “obtaining, preserving, and expanding Householder’s political power in the State of Ohio through the receipt and use of secret payments.” One of the uses of those secret payments was to fund a super PAC through Generation Now that paid for advertisements benefiting Householder and his allied candidates ahead of Ohio’s primary elections in 2018, which helped set the stage for Householder to be elected speaker in January 2019. In July 2021, FirstEnergy agreed to pay a $230 million monetary penalty as part of a deferred prosecution agreement that also required the release of a statement calling the use of section 501(c)(4) nonprofits, which don’t have to disclose their donors, “central” to its influence effort because they allowed the company to “conceal payments for the benefit of public officials and in return for official action.” Following guilty pleas by two co-conspirators who agreed to testify in the case, Householder and former Ohio Republican Party chairman Matt Borges were found guilty in March 2023 by a jury of participating in a racketeering conspiracy"

You listed someone violating the law and getting caught. What does this have to do with anything?

How? This had nothing to do with Citizens United and this kind of bribery existed before and would regardless.
