Well it's not quite that bad but the fact that it's even a comparable number is horrificing

Canada just had its 5th straight quarter in a row of shrinking business investment

Canada 5th quarter in a row business investment left - Google Search

That's not fifth month, that's 5th quarter. So for the entire time carney has been in office business investment in Canada has been shrinking not growing every single month. Think business knows something his supporters don't?

And all the while he promised us the fastest growing economy in the G7

Canadian economy 'expected to strengthen' after technical recession: OECD

After Canada’s economy slipped into a technical recession last week, a new outlook by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, or OECD, said on Wednesday said that GDP growth is set to rebound later in the year and continue growing into 2027.

“GDP growth is expected to strengthen over 2026 and 2027,” the OECD said in a note about Canada’s economy on Wednesday.

Statistics Canada said Friday that GDP in the first quarter of 2026 fell 0.1 per cent on an annualized rate, and follows a revised one per cent annualized decline in the fourth quarter of 2025. A technical recession is most commonly defined as two consecutive quarters with negative economic growth.

On a quarter-over-quarter basis, the agency says growth was essentially unchanged, but small movements in quarterly figures are magnified when converted into annualized rates. Real GDP declined last October and in March, but growth was either flat or positive in the four months in between.

You mean we'll go from a recession to barely above a recession?

Yay,

Also, 5th consecutive quarter that business investment has fallen in Canada.

Kinda hard to invest when there is economic uncertainty from Trump’s trade war and his constant violations of CUSMA

PP doesn’t have any magic solutions or overnight fixes no matter how much you want to believe he does. Even if he did have a solution it would take many months or several quarters for him to get them all into action that’s justand several more before they would actually produce results in economic metrics, that’s just how the real world works, I doubt you would be shrieking the whole time the way you’re shrieking now. you’d be telling us to be patient and give it a couple years.

Ahhhh.... no.  No the globe and mail is well recognized as being a left of center publication at best. And I'm being somewhat generous. It's not as far left as the star but it is definitely left

Your problem is you think everyone right of Castro is a far right conservative :)

I know I never called the national post leftist. I didn't actually comment on either of them it was you who called the national post leftist

So you called them leftist I didn't mention it, and now you're claiming that I called them leftist. :P

Every accusation is a confession with you people isn't it :)

What batshit are you talking about NOBODY thinks G&M is “left of centre”.   They are endlessly ranting about deficits and the need for balanced budgets and they roasted Trudeau just about every day he was in office. Prominent conservative ANDREW COYNE is one of their main colomnists. You are such a far right nut-job if it’s not the official propaganda outlet of the Conservative Party you think it’s left wing.

Besides how do you explain the FACT that the National Post also reprot the FACTUAL NEWS that the Bay Street consensus also agrees it’s to early for the R word.

Your whole response to ACURRATE REPORTING is to make a weak and fact-free AD HOMINEM attack on one of the TWO news sources reporting inconvenient truths  and totally ignoring the other one. BTW NUMEROUS news sources all reporting the same story I only posted 2 to avoid being repetitive.

It's been FIVE QUARTERS

That means it predates even trump's election, never mind his tariffs, and carney RAN on being able to attract invesmtent and just spent 9 billion dollars in travel over the last year and a bit claiming he was bringing in big investment.

Seriously, i get he's "your guy" but how can you just dismiss this? This is pretty damn serious stuff.

He has a bunch of magic solutions. Wipe out the anti-business, anti Pipeline and anti -tanker bills and sent a clear message for investment. His plan to reward people and businesses that reinvest in Canadian businesses would be huge, a lot of our problem is Canadian businesses and people investing in the states instead of Canada. That right there would have made a massive difference.

There's a bunch of other proposals as well that would make a severe difference. They absolutely have magic solutions that would make a difference.

Literally everybody except you thinks the G&M is left of center, On a nice day they might call them center. The only reason they seem right to center to you is because they don't constantly praise the liberals night and day. The reporting especially their TV media tens to use softer language for the liberals and skip over some of their faults while at the same time hammering the conservatives be the federal or provincial

I'll remind you that you claim the CBC is pretty fair and neutral.  so there you go.

That’s Nonsense, period   It’s always been considered the businessman’s newspaper in my lifetime. Fiscally conservative and solidly red tory. You are just such a rabid right winger you think red Tories are all left wing.

Comparison to Competitors: It is widely considered to have a more left-leaning or liberal editorial board than The National Post, but is more conservative than the strictly progressive and left-leaning Toronto Star

These are ideas that work. The liberals don't have any ideas that work because they don't have any ideas that they haven't stolen from somebody else or that isn't based on ideology rather than fact.

So those ideas didn't work, Carney's ideas haven't worked.

Harper's ideas worked well, and Poilievres ideas would work well.

Now carney is too afraid to even take questions. DId you see him when a reporter asked about it?

Also, the definition of insanity has been changed to: "Doing the same thing for more than 15 years in a row and expecting a different result."

"strengthen" is a very relative term.

If you start at 100, and fall to 1, and eventually climb up to 1.5 you can claim a 50 percent growth. Sounds impressive but isn't.

Canada adds 87,800 jobs, jobless rate down to 6.6%, beating May estimates

OTTAWA, June 5 (Reuters) - Canada's economy added 87,800 jobs and the unemployment rate fell back to 6.6% ‌in May, data showed on Friday, defying widespread expectations and showing signs of some resilience despite signs of softer economic growth.

This is the first month this year of job gains and helped wipe off almost 80% of all job losses posted since the year began. The last time the economy added a significant number of jobs was October last year, Statistics Canada said.

Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast the unemployment rate to hold at the six-month high level reached in April at 6.9% and had predicted net additions of 10,000 jobs in May.

Canada's economy has weathered an onslaught of U.S. tariffs and trade uncertainty for more than 12 months, hitting some crucial sectors very hard and leading to job losses. It has also sucked hiring momentum and investments out from the broader economy.

Its economy hit a technical recession - two consecutive quarters of economic contraction - at the end of the first quarter on an annualized basis. But economists have been divided on whether Canada was actually in recession as there have been no widespread job losses and some sectors have shown healthy growth.

Statistics Canada said employment increased ‌in several industries such as construction which added a net of 26,800 jobs, information, culture and recreation which saw an addition of 19,300 jobs, transportation and warehousing which saw gains of 18,700 jobs and accommodation and food services which grew by 17,000 jobs.

The wholesale and retail trade sector, which accounts for almost 14% of the total employed work force, posted job decline of 35,000 positions in May.

Economists have said that the upcoming football World Cup, partly hosted by Canada, will also likely boost jobs in the months of June and July across some sectors.

The job additions was fully concentrated in full-time jobs which saw a net addition of 154,000 in May, reversing almost all of the first four months of net job losses in full-time work, StatsCan said, and added part-time employment fell by 66,200 in the month.

Average hourly wages of permanent employees, a metric closely tracked by the Bank of Canada to gauge the rise in inflation expectations, grew 3.2% in May, a sharp decline from the 4.8% posted in April.

The unemployment rate for youth declined 0.9 percentage points to 13.4%, StatsCan said, adding this was the first decline since January.

No you are the one who said PP had “magic” ideas not me  I am the one who told YOU there is no such thing as magic

Thy didn’t steal any ideas  It was the conservatives who stole from the Liberals  You will recall it was the conservatives platform that came out weeks AFTER  the liberals once they realized their negative campaign of “Just like Justin” wasn’t working and they needed to actually come up with some real ideas and it was THEY who ripped off the liberals.  Yes Carney ended or adjusted some unpopular/ unsuccessful Trudeau policies but that is not “stealing” conservative ideas

The May numbers are out and your claims have been debunked.
