Premier EBY states BC is being treated unfairly by the feds when announcing a campaign promise to lower bridge tools from NB to PEI and ferry tickets from NS to NFLD. He also states that BC contributes bils of dollars to Quebec and manitoba, but one billion to Ontario. He is concerned about Carney giving 20 dollar discounts for the bridge, and a few hundred for the ferry crossing. BC must be hurting if they are complaining about a few discounts, or maybe they just like whining about not be included in a small hand out...  funny i did not hear the NB/ NS or NLFD premiers whine about the millions BC has received for hydro projects or Natural gas plants and pipelines..

“Not only are we paying billions of additional equalization to Quebec and Manitoba and a billion dollars to Ontario, but also we have to watch the federal government show up on the East Coast and subsidize ferry users that already get a $300 subsidy per each $1 that a B.C. ferry user gets,” Eby said.

Eby calls for 'fair treatment' for ferry users in B.C. after Ottawa cuts fares in Eastern Canada | CBC News

BC is hurting actually. That happens when you have an NDP government for too long.

But I agree that this is kind of a strange Flex. Of all the government spending programs that he could be angry about, this seems the most nonsensical. At a time when all of the premiers are agreeing that interprovincial trade has to increase, making it easier for people to come and go from a promise seems like a bit of a no-brainer.

There are so many other government wastes That would seem to be more unfair than this to complain about.

Eby does have somewhat of a point. Half a million plus people on the Island and in spite of all the federal subsidies, it brings little cost relief to the people who have to use BC ferries.

I'd love to do the Prince Rupert to Port Hardy run, but holy shit - the price. We did the overnight Nfld-Sidney run and that was a bargain 10 years ago compared to the Horseshoe Bay - Nanaimo cost.

Eby thinks it’s popular to bash the Feds.  He knows intra-provincial ferries are provincial responsibility.  But he has to say something to appease the ignorant BC’ers who can’t tell the difference between inter and intra.

As much as I don't like the guy he's never been like that. And in fact he is quite correct that Pei does receive significant subsidies whereas British Columbia does not. In addition some of the fairies owned by Pei were purchased from the same company that EB is purchasing the new BC ferries from in china, but pei never got yelled at for their purchase and is now getting an additional subsidy whereas BC threatened to have its funding pulled and doesn't get a subsidy

It is actually substantially unfair. I think there's bigger things that are even more unfair but he's not wrong when he says that BC's getting shafted

Or penny pinchers pretending the Trans Canada Highway isn't to support minor technical dodges.

That highway, unless it goes through a national park, is provincial responsibility to maintain.

They're solely responsible inside parks but still contribute. And the feds did contribute massively toward ferry purchases.
My point is, nothing to reducing fares for a population pretty much equal to PEI & Nfld.

And if no one asks, nothing will change. So let the man ask rather than provide the feds with excuses. That's all any manager private or govt does these days.

PEI and NL ferries are federal jurisdiction.  Ferries in BC are not.

YA its a huge point alright...maritimers save 20 bucks on the bridge, and a couple hundreds on a 12 hour ferry ride to NFLD...it was a campaign promise that Carney made....EBY should have had the foresight to ask during the election....

They also contributed to most projects in BC...as they do with most provinces, regardless of how much they contribute to the provincial transfers....but this whole thing came out like a whine...they got it and we did not , we contribute to provincial handouts we should get the same...

population wise not even close those ferries and bridges serve NB, NS, NFLD and PEI....

It was not an ask it was a whine...they just had a premiers meeting he could have asked then, i bet ya he has a phone right on his desk, with the PM phone number... insteads he goes on national TV and whines, i bet he waits a good long while before BC gets a discount, or a good talk from the PM, daddy probably not happy...

OMG it's a bit of a stretch to add NS and NB as being 'served', they're merely the points the islands are served from.
The same issues exist on Vancouver Island to as many people. Higher costs for most everything.
Shit, I live 40km off the main highway and SaveOn tries to justify $1 on even the smallest item on added costs. Gas from 10 to 22c a litre...

Don't dis the guy for speaking up. Or tell half a million Islanders they have no fright to gripe. Almost sounds like you're jealous they live there and you don't. I know I'd gladly trade a place in Prince George or Surrey for one in Fanny Bay any day.

It’s not a legitimate gripe.  Sounds like Eby may be trying to deflect from what is a provincial responsibility.  “Don’t look at me because of our ferry costs! Look over there! It’s the feds!”

All I ever hear from Islanders is how expensive housing is.  How expensive ferries are. How bad homelessness is.   How it’s full there, so don’t come.

Do they ever say anything good about their island?

There's plenty of them from other people. Just none from you. Ever.

You make a statement and when somebody points out that it's wrong you start crying and flailing your hands about and throw a few insults.

Honestly it's depressing to think of you as all we can manage with four and a half billion years of evolution to work with.

So we agree that you have half a brain and you now think I can't hold an 'argument'?

I'm honestly not her to argue, but because of facts stated in pick a subject and your typical f'd up partisan logic that makes it difficult for you doesn't it.
