Lately, the idea of America eyeballing Greenland keeps popping up in speeches by U.S. politicians and lobbying groups in Washington. Even though the whole “buy or take over the island” talk gets slammed by critics back home, in Europe, it still hasn’t gone away.

1. Trump’s Legacy

   – In spring 2019, Donald Trump casually floated the idea of “buying” Greenland from Denmark. Critics were quick to cry colonialism and labeled it a “21st-century farce.”

   – Behind the scenes, though, the White House set up study groups to weigh the risks and benefits. They never got an official go-ahead for talks, but the very fact they existed shows the idea wasn’t entirely dismissed.

2. Vice President Vance’s Tough Talk

   – On Fox News, VP J.D. Vance warned, “If U.S. national interests call for more control over Greenland, we’ll put American priorities first.”

   – European capitals and Greenland’s own government called it neo-colonial posturing and populist rhetoric.

3. The Business Lobby & Natural Resources

   – U.S. oil, gas, and mining firms see massive deposits of hydrocarbons and rare earths under Greenland’s ice. Their lobbyists argue it’s “strategically vital” for America.

   – Environmentalists and Greenlandic activists fear these deals would strip locals of control over their land and wreck the fragile ecosystem.

Bottom line: Officially, the “Greenland purchase” idea hasn’t been shelved, and U.S. interest in the Arctic is only growing. It’s crucial that European allies and Greenland’s government build up transparency and safeguard their sovereignty.

What do you think? Where is this “Greenland question” headed—peaceful partnership or a clash of interests?

Don’t worry about Greenland, it’s already ours. You should worry about Canada. Enjoy your last few pointless years before annexation to the American empire.

The US is not going to annex Greenland.  End of the day and best case scenario for the US is they’ll probably make some form of new agreement with Denmark around the space force base they already share….however that may look be it natural resource trade-offs or other.

Typical Trump bluster to detract from his domestic issues….

Trump/Americans have no desire to take over, uh, Canada.

But I can understand Trump's desire to take over Greenland. This is a dispute with Denmark. WTF?

Faced with China and Russia and whoever, this is a no-brainer: You bought Alaska. Buy Greenland.

There’s already a US military base on Greenland. It’s effectively in our control. The Dane and the rest of Europe for that matter lack the capability to take it back by force anyway. So, there’s only a matter of paying for it as a way to formally declare it as ours.

It's headed for the future in either case. It'll be hundreds of years at least until the ice covering Greenland melts enough to get at all those massive deposits that everyone is excited about.

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

Greenlanders are responding by making agreements with many Canadian companies lately.

I think Canada should make a joint security agreement with Denmark for the defence of the island. Makes sense in many ways.

We already have one, it's called NATO.

First of all, nobody will want to do a security agreement with NATO’s largest deadbeat.

Second, the European are embroiled by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They do not have the capability to challenge American air dominance or naval supremacy. These are the two main requirements for amphibious operations. Even the Chinese within their own coast line and amassing the military capacity to invade Taiwan for 50 years have not dared to invade. What makes you think Canada and the Euro deadbeat stand a chance against the US? By the way, we’re already there. We have military bases and airfields already on the island! You and the Euro would be invading a heavily defended US territory. Greenland was built as a defensive bulwark against Russian/Chinese air and missile threat.

Canada and Greenland are defacto US unincorporated territory. Putting up any meaningful military resistance is a pipe dream. You don’t have the means or the willingness to do so. Why else is your military spending including the Europeans so abysmally low?
