Poilievre promises to maintain federal dental care and child care programs Carney is really lying hard. The trick to good politicking is to cast doubt and degrade your opponent in a way that can't immediately be proven to be false and plant the suggestion. Paul Martin tried the hidden agenda thing and Trudeau kept talking about how sheer was Palling around with white supremacists so that must mean...... (leaves it up to the audience to decide). I mean it was all untrue but it was untrue in a way that was impossible to immediately verify and it cast doubt in people's minds. Carney is just coming out and saying things that are blatantly wrong and it just doesn't have the right impact. Especially seeing as he's been caught lying before and had to admit it so every additional fibbery just drives that point home This guy just is not up to the task and it is only a matter of time until the polls start to severely sag. My suspicion is that poilievre is keeping things fairly mellow right now and not laying bombshell after bombshell just because carney is struggling and he doesn't want to interrupt him. But I bet in the second half or when carney finds his footing a bit then from the CPC it's nothing but policy announcement after policy announcement with a cohesive argument behind it and attack and attack on Carney based on things from the past and Carney won't have the time or ability to counter it. 1 Quote

Looks like some of you are on here 24/7. I was looking around the web, forums, boards and articles, and 2 words kept coming up when people talked about PeePee; cringe and creepy (especially when he smiles). Our version of Ron Desantis. "At a campaign stop Tuesday in Vaughan, Ont., Poilievre was asked whether he would cut the national dental-care and pharmacare programs — something that's been a popular point of attack among his opponents. "We will protect these programs and nobody who has them will lose them," Poilievre said. "We will make sure that nobody loses their dental care." He did not specify what he would do with the pharmacare program, which he has said previously he would end." Weasel words and non answers. Looks like a senior who applies for dental care next year might not get it if PeePee wins. You boys have fun. 2 Quote

This was a classic. It also keeps it in the news cycle longer and PP has been doing a good job of that, keeping Carney's goofs in the spotlight. 12 minutes ago, Army Guy said: Today's Conservative promises is a tax cut for our seniors on top of the tax cut already announced, plus adjustment to the age when you must take out your RRSP or turn them into RIFFS. But I'm sure it's something everybody's going to get behind either way, most people have grandparents or someone in their life is going to benefit from this 1 1 Quote
herbie Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 Shame how the Liberals tying PP's shoelaces together but pretty much matching or coming first with the 'promises' and avoiding abandoning any environmental efforts whatsoever. And don't need to choke out promises to keep dental, pharma, retirement age, and child care. But i do think the polls aren't reflecting the truth. I think that they're reflecting the early hype about carney and that his numbers will drop pretty quickly. THere's always a lag in polling, a bad performance this week won't show up till next week, usually there's about a 4 day lag or so for any event to start showing up unless it's pretty damn dramatic. But i do not believe carney is currently winning this election with a majority as many polls suggest, i don't even think he's winning with a minority. I think the polls are no more accurate than they were in the states when they showed Kamala was winning. We'll see. Quote
Barquentine Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Mar 27, 2025 "One of the country's top Conservative strategists who just helped Ontario Premier Doug Ford win a sizable majority government says Pierre Poilievre urgently needs to make a pivot and start talking more about the issue voters care about most — the U.S. threat — or he risks losing the federal election. In an interview with CBC News, Kory Teneycke said only weeks ago Poilievre was on track to win a massive majority government, and now every major pollster in the country says it's the Liberals who are set to win big. If an election were held today, the Conservatives would lose, Teneycke said. He said it's because of U.S. President Donald Trump — and the Conservative Party's inadequate messaging around what it would do to try and stop his tariffs and annexationist threats. But it's not just that, Teneycke said, there's also a stylistic issue — the party's leader is just too "Trump-y" and he's got to make a change fast. Teneycke said Poilievre acts and sounds too much like the president, with his pet names for his political opponents ("Carbon tax Carney") and catchy sloganeering ("big beautiful bring it home tax cut"), and it's off-putting to voters the party needs to win. "It all sounds too Trump-y for a lot of voters," Teneycke said. Teneycke, who held senior roles under former prime minister Stephen Harper including director of communications before becoming a strategist at firm Rubicon, said Poilievre is "negative all the time" and it's "hard to be liked by the public" when you're like that."
