chocolatebob Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 These on again off again tariffs by Trump will continue. Trump has shown and it is clear this is how he keeps everyone off balance in the chaos as he goes from hitting Canada with tariffs so no body in the US is watching / questioning him 0n the other crap he is doing there. Trump is using Canada as that carnival husker barks 'nothing up my sleeve' and 'keep your eye on the cup with the ball under it'. Trump does not care what effect his BS has on anything else other than his me/my/mine and how he can make out with the power and the adulations and the grift of fleecing the US population of funds to feed his narcissism! Canada is the tail to the Trump wagging it! That is if Canada let's him. Which we shouldn't. We see that there have been just today layoffs within the steel industry in Canada. There are delays and stoppages in any investing in the industries within Canada because of the uncertainties while the Trump on again off again tariffs swing from pillar to post week in and week out, always hanging over our heads! There is a hesitance to take on new orders without knowing the costs and this is the right thing for a company to do. It is not good for Canada but it is prudent for the company not to place an order without know any certainties! So, the Federal and Provincial governments all, in concert, have to remove that issue of having unfilled slots on the balance sheets so that we keep the facilities operating to their best and making sure that there are no further layoffs here in Canada. There has been talk about the ring of fire and about and east pipeline and about stockpiling steel and aluminum so that the refineries are kept busy. Talk talk talk! So, government, fill the order sheets. Put on the books these programs. Make the guarantees to the industries that you will make good on the productions of steel and aluminum. Fill the empty spots on their order sheets. Do not take in any more 'off shore' steel or aluminum into the country. Do not allow the US to get entered on the order sheets ..... fill those order sheets with Canadian requirements for the products. Tell the US we are BUSY taking care of the needs of Canada and Canadians! Instead of waffling about whether we could or should build an easterly pipeline or whether we start any facilities on the west coast or the east coast for shipping our products overseas whether that be LNG or steel and aluminum or lumber or pot ash or rare earth minerals or agriculture or any other products Canadians have just pull the plug and make the commitments to our steal and aluminum industries and put the orders on their order sheets and lets get moving on these things we all know we will need sooner rather than later! We put BILLIONS into fighting an unplanned and sadly very destructive pandemic. We all around the globe were caught with our pants down and yet we in Canada did manage to spend unplanned money to try and mitigate the issues arising from the pandemic. We extended the funds without really knowing what the end costs would be. We made mistakes but we issued funds and we tried hard to stem the tide. We were not sure if the spending of these funds were right, in the correct areas or not, if the spending would be abused, if we could every recover the funds, but we did know that if we did nothing or if we hesitated we would surely suffer as a country. Well, IMO a similar 'CANCER' called Trump is infecting us and we need to take all steps possible to avert the problems caused to Canada and Canadians by this CANCER! And that means we should, as with the pandemic, direct funding towards the industries within Canada that will fend off the ill effects and sickness the loose cannon of Donald Trump is putting on us. Trump will not be any better in a week or a month or next year! Trump is Trump and we need to make sure he is not the one directing whether Canada and Canadians suffer from his insane actions! We are not blind. We see and know what to expect from Trump. We have seen Trump before and we know what Trump does. Only if we let Trump 'wag our tail' will we be impacted by Trump and his chaos and his ideologies and his on again off again tariffs! Trump has shown us that he does not have our interests at heart and we know he does not abide by the agreements he has signed so why do we try and work it out with Trump. Sure we need the tariffs gone but whether Trump takes them off or puts them on later or even threatens to enact them why do we remain on his 'roller coaster'? Let's allow the ties to the US fray and unwind and they may even sever, but we need to make sure we take our own destiny into our own hands and invest NOW into Canadian big projects! The time for more study or more thinking or hesitation is over, let's pull the plug and take the plunge and go for it! Quote
ironstone Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 The current federal government also does not have the best interests of Canada at heart. The biggest threat to Canadian industry and resource development is our eco-terrorist Environment Minister Stephen Guilbeault, who will likely continue in that role when Carney has his coronation. 1 Quote "Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it." herbie Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 Yes, that's the answer: shitify the environment in the name of industry. Much easier and cheaper than Quebec selling milled aluminum to Europe and Kitimat sending ingots to Asia. That's too hard when a simple solution works for simple minds. Quote
cougar Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 14 hours ago, chocolatebob said: These on again off again tariffs by Trump will continue. Yep. There will be 25% tariffs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays but only on goods whose names start with the letters g, n, t, o, p, q and z. If it is a rainy day the tariffs will be reduced by 50% to only 12.5% ; on a sunny day the tariffs will be up to 37.5%. If the truck driver is Mexican, East Indian or Hispanic the tariffs jump to 250%. For young lady drivers the tariff will go down to 10% or 0% if they drive naked. Quote
Aristides Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 Definitely sell it to someone else if possible. Canada produces four times the amount of aluminum as the US. Quote

The time for more study or more thinking or hesitation is over, let's pull the plug and take the plunge and go for it! but the reality is that America needs the aluminum & steel, they're not going to stop buying it, they will just be paying more for it, moreover, the Canadian dollar is going to fall as this trade war persists, which offsets the effects of the tariffs, Canada should just keep calm and carry on in classic British fashion, America is shooting herself in the foot here, it's all going to backfire spectacularly "never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake" ~ Bonaparte Quote
