I admire Elon.  But humans living on Mars?

Let's send robots to Venus and figure out what happened.

Fergawdsakes, let's pay for satellites with high precision cameras to see the potential asteroids.

We have satellites with high Precision cameras. We had hubble, and that was amazing. and now we have james webb.

Why do you keep spouting this illiterate nonsense? You're making endless stupid statements that are demonstrably wrong, demanding things that are scientifically impossible at this time and suggesting we should do things we've already done.

What the hell is the matter with you right now? Don't you have anything intelligent to bring to the table? You're not usually this dumb

We don't have such "cameras".

We don't have "robots" on Venus. We don't know what happened on Venus.

=====

Let me repeat: No human will ever live on Mars.

We are wasting resources to live on Mars rather than wondering why life on Venus is not possible.

On a separate note, we now have a Vera Rubin telescope.

We should focus on educating those among us who think the world is flat, or that the greenhouse effect isn't real.

Disagree. The world is obviously not flat.

As to the greenhouse effect, true.

But does it matter?

We absolutely do have those cameras. I just gave you their names.

And we can't put robots on venus at this time. The technology just isn't there. But we have had satellites nearby examining it and probably will again.

I don't know why you insist on lying

i don't know why @Michael Hardner is happy about you lying other than he's just generally supportive of lies i guess? :P

You literally just insisted that we didn't have any cameras. Couldn't you wait at least one post before you contradicted yourself? :)

Our public sphere is designed for there to be experts, that we believe and listen to.

If there are too many flat earthers, we get shamans and flakes instead of experts.

Our public sphere has no such thing.

We have experts who provide evidence and offer interpretation. We ASSUME THEY MAY BE WRONG AND ATTEMPT TO VERIFY.  In fact that's how the whole system is designed.  We don't just blindly believe them at all.

Further the public uses their findings and opinions to influence it's decisions but does NOT blindly follow the experts at all.

The fact is the experts are often wrong.  That is a simple truth.  Einstein himself said that 'spooky action at a distance' wasn't happening and so did Schrodinger (made a little story about a cat about it as you may have heard)  and those are two of our most expert experts.

The nobel prize was won 2 years ago or thereabouts by a team who proved conclusively that they were wrong and it does.

So there you go.

Pretty much every climate change model has already proven to be wrong, usually by admission from the scientists who developed them (and often with them saying it was too forgiving).   So we know that following the experts is not smart.

It is wise to consider what the experts say. It is wise to give appropriate weight to their comments and conclusions and findings. But it is beyond foolish to follow them blindly.

I won't get into Einstein and cats.

I simply note that Science and Politics are obviously linked. Someone paid for Galileo's lens to see the moons of Jupiter.

(Hint: Venetian traders wanted to see which ship was arriving first. I think Michael Lewis has based several books on this concept.)

We are foolishly wasting resources to send people to live where it is impossible to live - planets, moons, space-stations.

And we are also foolishly looking for life on other planets, exo-planets.

We rather should send robots to find what happened on Venus.

And make sure another asteroid doesn't arrive from the Sun side.

But they're living there. So it's possible to live there. It's a ridiculous statement to say we're sending people to live and they're living in a place where they couldn't possibly live and yet they're living. You have to see how ridiculous that is

And it's not a waste of resources, a crap ton of Research is done in those places that simply couldn't be done anywhere else. I know you're not a fan of science but a lot of people are

Why would that be foolish? You seem to inherently hate expanding our knowledge. Are you secretly a Luddite or Amish or something? Have you upgraded your clothing to have buttons yet?

Yeah, Galileo did. Austin is money came from being a teacher and a few side gigs. Occasionally some wealthy person or family would give him some cash for patronage but he didn't get government money and paid for most of the stuff he bought himself. Reportedly he was often tight on cash

You just being completely retarded. You're talking like a 6 year old trying to explain to someone that santa is real. What you're saying is simply wrong it's not a matter of opinion you're just wrong. Read up on it a bit

True, humans can live in space, zero-gravity. Within the protection of Earth's shell. LEO.

The Sun and universe send various waves.

No human has lived -long term- outside the shell of our Earth's radioactive shield. The Apollo astronauts managed a few days. We humans are not designed for such.

Posted (edited)

A critical test of the Gemini project was humans going outside the Van Allen belt.

Gemini XI went highest.

The Gemini VII went longest.

Only America has launched a human beyond LEO.

We can live as long outside of the earth's shield as we can inside. It's really not that hard. We have this stuff now called metal that those waves can't pierce and the suggestion has been we could make our space stations out of that 🙄🙄🙄

The biggest thing that the earth's magnetic shield does for us is keep our atmosphere from being stripped away by solar winds. But it turns out you can do that with metal too

Disagree.

Solar waves are one thing.

Random waves from the rest of the universe another.

=====

We humans live in a remarkable shell that protects us. Intelligent Design?

Humans who say such nonsense have no idea of how large the universe is. I have always thought that Richard Dawkins should study cosmology.

How large the universe is wouldn't be relevant. Design could take place either way. it just doesn't.

Humans can see light. Our eyes have evolved to see.  We are surrounded by many other waves.

We have micro-waves. We use phones. X-rays - scary.

=====

Our sun sends rays. And the other suns in our galaxy also sends rays, randomly.

We on this Earth are protected.

========

Anyone living on Mars, the Moon will suffer from Sun rays - and the random rays from stars outside our solar system, even our galaxy.

We humans have evolved  to live on Earth.

So you're worried about random light hitting us from distant sources and damaging us if there was no magnetic shield

Soooo.. turns out the shield lets light through.  Otherwise we couldn't see the sun.

Drunk, maybe.

Any human who travels beyond the protection of LEO will suffer sun rays, and random rays from the rest of the Universe.

The sun rays are sort of predictable. The other rays are not.

The only people who have travelled beyond LEO are the Apollo astronauts and a few Gemini astronauts.

Let the robots make the trip to Mars a routine thing, eg a hundred consecutive uneventful flights and help within a week for any human expedition, before we consider sending anybody but Elon Musk there.

Agreed.

No human will live on Mars. Our DNA is not designed for such a planet.

1. Climate change? Let's send robots to Venus to figure out what happened.

2. Impending doom? Let's send satellites to detect incoming asteroids.
