Liberals have been looking at a new tax revenue, your home equity...They have spent millions studying this and having media agencies' trying to win Canadians over to the idea... I mean who in their right mind would agree to tax one of the few tax shelters that most are relying on for their golden years. DO liberal voters think this is a good idea ? I can't talk for all conservatives but this idea is crazy...

BINDA: Liberals try to fool Canadians on home equity tax

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

So, you're bringing up a study from 9 years ago, and then another one from 3 years ago that ultimately went nowhere, commissioned by a government that's on its way to near-certain and well-deserved defeat.

We must discuss this further.

The head of Generation Squeeze was invited to speak at a 2023 Liberal cabinet retreat in Prince Edward Island.

Trudeau, then-finance minister Chrystia Freeland and federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh all attended private town halls and appeared on podcasts hosted by Generation Squeeze in 2023 or 2024.

At the same time Trudeau and Freeland were delivering closed-door talks to the home equity tax lobby group, cabinet again polled Canadians on home equity taxes. The poll is dated 2025....

Maybe you did not read the whole article....the last poll was done in 2025....

Okay.  A poll of some sort was conducted by a government on its way out...

What are you even going to have to talk about once Trudeau's gone?

Trudeau of course, especially when its obvious everything is still screwed up and broken 3/4 thru Mr Apples first and probably only majority term.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

I just don't understand what the point is in this sort of topic.  Trudeau's been running a zombie government for months.  He's certain to lose.  The desperate scrambling and polling he was doing in his final months seems pretty irrelevant now.

I disagree. I work and pay income tax.

Why should the money you earn from the increase in your home value/sale be taxed any different?

You buy a house at $300,000 -flip it- sell at $500,000. Capital gain tax?

You have a business, pay people, keep some for yourself, pay corporate tax rate.

SALT!

Trump fixed this in America. In Canada, we don't have it.
