Nationalist Posted November 11, 2024 Report Posted November 11, 2024 Crimea is now Russian. I don't believe the USA recognizes Tai independence. Should China decide to take it, I doubt even Trump could stop them. Quote Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.
NAME REMOVED Posted November 12, 2024 Report Posted November 12, 2024 The USA could easily stop them. However, Trump is a coward, and would be paid off by the Chinese not to do anything. Quote

Quote We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

Imagine Anglos in DDO doing such. === There is a difference between Taiwan and China. Taiwan is like Singapore. Quote
August1991 Posted November 14, 2024 Author Report Posted November 14, 2024 Taiwan (Taipei) is a weird remnant of the Cold War. It is part of China - like the Anticosti Island is part of Quebec. Quote
August1991 Posted November 21, 2024 Author Report Posted November 21, 2024 Before 1989, like Truman and Reagan, we were correct to defeat the Soviets/Communists/Socialists who wanted to take over the entire world. But now, in these 2020s, Americans are merely facing a typical opponent, in a new world. Quote

I think that old head injury from the Yugoslavian War is affecting your posting. May want to get that checked out by a doctor. Quote

Putin reminds me of Catherine the Great, Nicholas II. After this Cold War, we need an arrangement for peace. Quote

August1991 Posted November 30, 2024 Author Report Posted November 30, 2024 As I say, we live in a new world - like the 1815s. We need new counterweights. Quote
August1991 Posted December 4, 2024 Author Report Posted December 4, 2024 (edited) After the cataclysms of 1789-1815, in 1815 in Vienna, Europe created a structure of peace. This structure lasted for 100 years, This structure collapsed in summer 1914. Then, for 30 years, utter mayhem ensued. In Yalta/Potsdam in 1945, Europe created a structure of peace. It collapsed in 1991. Since 1991, Europe (the World) needs a new structure. Like 1815. ==== We are facing a collapse like summer 1914 Edited December 4, 2024 by August1991 Quote
August1991 Posted December 4, 2024 Author Report Posted December 4, 2024 To return to my OP, Crimea is Russian in the same way that Longueuil is French. (As languages go, the spoken difference between Russian & Ukrainian is about English-Scotland vs English-Alabama). Two Notes: People in West Ukraine (Galicia) were part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. This is the better part of Ukraine. Ukrainians are both Catholic and Orthodox (Ukrainian Catholic priests can marry.) ==== Taipei is 1950s architecture - but food from all China. Quote
NAME REMOVED Posted December 4, 2024 Report Posted December 4, 2024 Now that Biden is out, and Trump and his cronies are coming in, I suspect that the Chinese will eventually invade Taiwan, especially if Trump's protectionist policies tank the US economy.. The US will be in no position to do anything, in the worst case scenario of Trump's new policies causing outrage in America to the point that the people start to revolt. Quote

More than anything else, I wish for peace. People in Taiwan (like Hongkong) should live well. ===== In 2014, Russia took Crimea without violence. This dispute between Russia/Ukraine could have been resolved peacefully. Since 1991, we live in a New World. We need new counterweights. Edited December 7, 2024 by August1991 Quote
