While Trudeau government created housing crisis in Canada and our health and educational services overwhelmed by inflow of millions of immigrants during his 9 year government, today he admitted his mistake by cutting immigration levels by 20%. It will come down to just under 400K next year and to 365K by 2027.

  • CITIZEN_2015 changed the title to Immigration will be cut by 20% next year and over the next few years.

You've not been following this topic very well....perhaps you can shed some light on why you think they are not tied together...

The bigger question is how did they arrive at just 20 % why not some other random number like 50 % or more?

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

They should cut it by at least 40%

Why do you think the two subjects must be tied together?
You wish that real estate developers should determine the future of Canada?

It is a simple matter of supply and demand. I thought they teach this in high schools.

Significantly more demand for housing by new immigrants in short time while new housing construction can't keep up causes housing shortage and significant increase in rents and housing prices that we have witnessed past few years.

For health and education being squeezed just visit a hospital or school. You will see many new arrivals. I went to renew my Health card. A long lineup, many new immigrants speaking  their own language.

Also simple high school stuff that the govt does not build housing. Yet every self professed free enterpriser on this forum seems to think they do and they should.

The last time they got involved was for returning vets. Laid out standardized plans, simplified codes just like they've been doing now but they did not build them. You suggesting they should make a financing option for immigrants same as they did for vets? Didn't think so. Start building Soviet style block houses with public money? Didn't think so either.

Welcome to Realty Inc. where we clearly see the demand for millions of new homes. As well as the lack of buyers with 1 to 2 million $$ to sell them to.
Think about that, if immigration was cut to zero, you got $1 million to buy a home today? You even got $100K for a  down payment?

So quit spewing the shit that immigrants are the cause of the problem. They're coming here with that kind of doughand  buying up all the homes?

Educate yourself on the basics of supply and demand.

You are twisting my comments. I never said government should be building housing. This was not the point of my criticism and you know it. I said stop or reduce significantly immigration and new arrivals of all kind until housing gets better. In other words, I said government must address the demand side of equation not supply as you distorted my saying. Typical of leftists to distort and twist,

Dance about don't we? Not saying they should but blaming them for not.
Repeating the original claim while demeaning the fact the govt did something, something you wanted them to do.
Dodge by claiming govt can do something about demand rather than supply.

Hey, when I bought my first home the govt gave out $5000 home buyer grants. 7 or 8% of the price back then. But don't forget that was back in the OLD DAYS when govt could do things because it was best for the country without loud buttheads squealing and whining that it was 'communist'.

Try telling us a possible solution rather than pinning blame on the govt and immigrants, we got Poilievre to do that.

They need to sit down and take a look at how many homes are being built and how many we are short and come up with a way of calculating a number that makes sense based on the infrastructure we are building.

Which is what Poilievre has said he would do.

Frankly given the circumstances I think at the moment even 40% might be a tad bit High. But we need to approach this scientifically and mathematically and figure it out and right now Trudeau is just making fake promises. Nobody seriously believes if he gets re-elected that he won't just ratchet it right back up

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

I don't suppose it occurred to you that if they couldn't find people to pay a million for a home they'd have to cut the price, hmm? No, I suppose not.

Even the government now admits they ARE, in fact, the problem. This leaves you with nothing, not even your normal RACIST!! accusations to fall back on.

Maybe that was back in the days before the Trudeaus had built up an enormous debt with continuing massive deficits. Unfortunately, we're kinda broke now.

We need to cut immigration by 80%, and cut foreign workers by even more.

Oh FFS stopping immigration is no solution. Stop it dead and the problem will still be there.

if Canada is only building less than 500,000 homes a year and we are bringing up to 1 million people a year, how in the blue blazes does immigration not effect housing crises........are they suppose to stay in hotels for ever, sleep outdoors in the tent camps....look we all know math is not your speciality, neither is complicated issue of supply and demand...Nor does the fact that most new homes are contracted by Canadians for many reason like family is growing, moving for work, etc etc it all comes down to the fact we are not building enough homes , not for Canadians, or new immigrants....but i'd be interested in how you figure otherwise...
