not all beliefs are equal

otherwise Canada itself would never have existed

in that Canadians in particular will not apparently say : you're either with us, or agin us

Not all Canadians have those beliefs, or come from/have roots in the British Isles.  It's foolish to think so. The native beliefs are strong and deep pertaining to the land and what it gives and takes away. It will provide for you or eat you. The organized religions of other worlds are window dressing for the old ones in most cases.  I know.

What is more important?  Where beliefs came from or what the truth is?  Everybody has their "truth" that they cling to.  But that doesn't make it true.  This article helps to explain the difference between relative truth and absolute truth.  That is the real issue.

"What Is the Difference Between Absolute Truth and Relative Truth?

The challenge we face is not people asking the question, 'what is truth?' but do they really want the answer. As our society becomes more and more “enlightened” we appear to be slipping further away from how we define and understand truth which could possibly make this question more important than ever.

In John 18:38, Jesus is before Pilate and Pilate asks him the question for the ages, “What is truth?” The amazing thing about this question from Pilate is that standing before him was the embodiment of truth and yet it seems Pilate missed it. Like Pilate, every person is in search of the truth, most asking the same question what is truth? The challenge we face is not people asking the question, but do they really want the answer. As our society becomes more and more “enlightened” we appear to be slipping further away from how we define and understand truth, which could possibly make this question more important than ever.

What Is truth?

Here is how Dictionary.com defines truth: “the true or actual state of a matter; conformity with fact or reality; a verified or indisputable fact, proposition, principle, or the like.”

When you look at this definition you begin to see there is a definitive nature to truth. The words used here to describe truth are very decisive. Truth is factual and indisputable. The reason this is so important is because truth remains true. It is not dependent on what you think or feel about it.

Yet with a word that has such a concrete definition, there are many who have identified different ways to understand how we come to truth and how we define what it is. Not to become too philosophical, let’s approach this question from the perspective of the average person. In our society today, a safe assumption is the average person would probably narrow down truth into two categories, absolute truth and relative truth.

What Is the Difference Between Absolute Truth and Relative Truth?

1. Absolute Truth. Absolute truth is true regardless of how a person thinks or feels about it. Here is a biblical example of absolute truth. Jesus is Lord. Regardless of how you feel about that statement, it is true. Many will argue about this statement and try to debate its veracity, but this does not change the truth that Jesus is Lord. Here is a verse that defines what absolute truth looks like.

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).

In this verse, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. On this day opinions or feelings won’t matter because everyone will acknowledge Jesus as Lord. Whether you agree or not what makes this truth absolute is it doesn’t change based on your opinion.

2. Relative Truth. Relative truth is the belief truth changes based on the individual’s understanding of it. With relative truth, there are no absolutes and what may be true for you is simply not true for me.

A common statement reflecting relative truth may sound like this “You have your truth and I have mine.” The problem with relative truth it is a contradiction in terms. If truth is factual and indisputable then you cannot have different truths for different people. Relative truth is a rejection of absolute truth.

One reason people embrace the idea of relative truth is because it allows them to create their own reality that frees them to do whatever they want. I know we often like to think of this as a societal problem however this problem exists in the church as well. Paul warned us about this.

"Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." (2 Timothy 4:2-4).

This is the age we are living in. People are surrounding themselves with those who will tell them the “truth” they want to hear. While this gives them the freedom to justify how they live, they are basing their lives on a truth that is not true at all.

What Are the Characteristics of Truth?

For this section, when I talk about truth I am talking about absolute truth. While there can be a multitude of opinions, there can only be one absolute truth. What are the characteristics that define this kind of truth?

1. Truth is constant (It does not change). For something to be deemed true, it cannot change and must remain constant. Circumstances may change, but the truth surrounding those circumstances must remain constant or you are not dealing with truth.

2. Truth is objective (It plays no favorites). Truth must also be objective. This means that the same truth is applicable to everyone. If the standard for truth changes from person to person, then it is no longer truth. For example, Romans 3:23 tells us all have sinned. For this to be an absolute truth it must apply to everyone, which this statement does.

3. Truth will prevail (It will be standing in the end). While I believe as Christians, we have a responsibility to defend the truth, at the end of the day truth will defend itself. Time is the greatest ally of truth. Eventually, the lies will fall by the wayside and all that will be left is the truth.

The OP can't grasp the fact that other good people have a God that meets their needs and beliefs.

Unfortunately that claim might be true in the sense people have false beliefs that they think is the answer and it may even give them some comfort.  But if it is a false belief, then it is useless and won't save them from damnation.

Good people is an incorrect assumption.

Romans 3:23 says "23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; "

Therefore we are ALL sinners in the sight of almighty God.  The only solution is a personal one for each individual.  He/she must repent and accept Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Savior and believe that Jesus died and shed his blood for them personally.  Apart from that there is no salvation.

" 6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7  By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. {moved…: or, being wary} 8  By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9  By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10  For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.  KJV"

you are saying the same thing which he is saying, in that your belief system is correct and his is not

all I am saying is that Canada is an entirely British construct,

rooted in Christianity, particularly the Protestant Enlightment

it is literally written into the Constitution Act

tho the founders of Canada did not actually come from the British Isles

they were Americans whom came from Pennsylvania ; United Empire Loyalists

in terms of the First Nations, Christian Britain was their only and most stalwart ally

the Americans were bent on ethnically cleansing the natives off the land

the British Crown was the only thing standing in their way

and that is why the Americans went to war against the British Crown

defending the First Nations is how Britain lost America

I thought it was mostly upstate New York. When I was a child we were in New Hampshire, and a stranger approached us and said their relatives settled in Ontario, because he Mom heard our town name mentioned by my father.

We got to chatting and it turned out his distant relatives were prominent family in the foundation of our upper Canada town.

And to show that some things never change... New York was different from the rest of the country in that they were staunch loyalists. New York's always different.

I am referring to the original migration

at the time, New York was mostly wilderness

the seat of power and centre of the colonies was in Pennsylvania

the very place that George Washington initiated the Seven Years War

upon the Americans winning the War of Independence, the Loyalists were forced to flee

actually led by Benedict Arnold himself

and the place that they fled to is now called Ontario

well, my point is simply this

we are Americans

America is a British construct as well

we are simply the Americans whom remained loyal to the British Crown

that's really all Canada is

if you remove the British Crown, you cease to be Canada, and simply revert back to being Americans by default

which is actually happening now, in real time, with the exception of Quebec perhaps

although even the Quebecois are becoming Americans now, certainly in Montreal they are

there is no such thing as a Canadian republic

the Canadian population has no republican tradition and does not behave like republicans

Canadians let the Crown run the country for them, deeply ingrained in the culture

Canadians are monarchists by nature, even if it wasn't written into the Constitution

the de facto revolution in progress now, does not originate from Canada

this is an American revolution being imposed upon Canada

the Americans have come for Queen Victoria, Sir John A and the rest

to tear it all down, replacing it with an American ideology

Toronto the Good is becoming Chicago North at a breathtaking pace

Simple soldiers call it reality.

Reality doesn't care what you think or what you believe... the sun rises in the east whether you believe it or not and a woke compass will just get you lost. Unless you happen to have a woke map to go along with it. And in that case, no one else will be able to find you.

Look at that... always a plus side eh?

The very people simple soldiers hope to encounter "over there", you get home sooner.

If Canada is to be destroyed it won't be a foreign adversary that causes it, we'll do it to ourselves and the current trend toward a narrative of self loathing comes to mind (at least for me).

Remember this song? It got lots of play in 1967.

Woke Liberals would literally loose their s---- if it got the same amount of play time now:

You say one will not burn in hell for not believing in Jesus Christ, who is God.   Seriously?   It is not my opinion.  It is what the Bible says.  The Bible was written by the apostles and prophets writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

If the bible really says so that God's children will be burned in fire for not believing in him then this is false bible. This cannot be from Christ who was a man of peace and was all for love and forgiveness. In his entire life he was a symbol of peace and love and forgiveness how could he have spoken of hate of God and burning in fire? He sacrificed his own life in the most painful way to take up the sins by us and all others how could possibly such a loving caring person convey a message of hate and burn.

The bible which speaks of burning in fire the man must have been fabricated by corrupt priests and so called religious leaders AFTER Christ for personal gains to fear people into giving their belongings to the church when churches were so powerful they used to burn adulterous women and some they suspect as witches or disobeying God into fire in order to rule over people by terror and threats and intimidations to fill up their pockets from the poor much like Islamic clergy are doing today. Blame the corrupt evil priests for all these not bible or Christ.

No, that is not correct.  I would be willing to discuss this rationally and calmly if you are sincere in wanting to know a little more about it.

Look,  I don't have all the answers.  But I can tell you the Bible teaches it is God's written revelation to man and the prophets and apostles wrote it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  This verses tells us scripture is inspired by God.:

"16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."  2 Timothy 3:16

The first thing is you have to understand that the Holy Scriptures were written by certain prophets and apostles.  The Old Testament was actually the Jewish Scriptures and was completed hundreds of years before Christ.

The New Testament was written by the Apostles who lived at the time of Christ and completed in the first century A.D.

Some of them saw Christ.  Many people saw Christ after he was resurrected which proves he is who he said he was, i.e. God.

What is very important to understand is that since Adam and Eve rebelled against God all men (and women) are born with a sinful, fallen nature.  That means they are at odds with God.  To understand the problem one must understand all people are alienated from God unless they are redeemed.  That is why God sent his Son to earth to suffer and die on the cross.  The Bible teaches that atonement was necessary.  The Book of Hebrews in the New Testament goes into that.

Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.  One must believe that and accept Jesus Christ as his own personal Savior and believe Jesus died for him (or her) personally to receive forgiveness for sin.  The book of Romans describes how everyone is guilty of sin and is separated from God.

Now, I can't explain what happens to the millions of people who never heard about this or live in parts of the world where this message is not preached.   But that is why missionaries went out to the world down through the ages.  They went to take the message of the gospel.  Which is we are all sinners and need to be saved. They explained how the people could be redeemed, or forgiven and receive eternal life.  I hope that makes some sense.

Do you really think you are qualified to dismiss it as a "false bible"?

We need to keep things in perspective and remember we are mere created beings and God is infinitely powerful and all-knowing.  We are mere created beings with very short lives on earth, while God is eternal.  We must approach God and his revelation with an open and humble mind.  Remember the Bible says many are called, but few are chosen.  Salvation depends on God's mercy.  We should keep that in mind.

Reality of Hell

A friend once challenged me to show her where Jesus talks about hell in the Gospels. Even a cursory read-through shows Jesus talked about it plenty. In fact, Jesus talked about hell more than any other person in the Bible. In Luke 16, he describes a great chasm over which “none may cross from there to us.” In Matthew 25, Jesus tells of a time when people will be separated into two groups, one entering into his presence, the other banished to “eternal fire.”

Jesus talks about hell more than he talks about heaven, and describes it more vividly. There’s no denying that Jesus knew, believed, and warned against the absolute reality of hell.

Jesus doesn’t only reference hell, he describes it in great detail. He says it is a place of eternal torment (Luke 16:23), of unquenchable fire (Mark 9:43), where the worm does not die (Mark 9:48), where people will gnash their teeth in anguish and regret (Matt. 13:42), and from which there is no return, even to warn loved ones (Luke 16:19–31). He calls hell a place of “outer darkness” (Matt. 25:30), comparing it to “Gehenna” (Matt. 10:28), which was a trash dump outside the walls of Jerusalem where rubbish was burned and maggots abounded. Jesus talks about hell more than he talks about heaven, and describes it more vividly. There’s no denying that Jesus knew, believed, and warned about the absolute reality of hell.

Reason for Hell

Jesus has to talk about hell because it is the fate that awaits all people apart from him. Because of Adam’s sin, we’re all guilty and deserve God’s eternal punishment. Contrary to popular belief, hell is not a place where God sends those who have been especially bad; it’s our default destination. We need a rescuer or we stand condemned.

So we’re left with two options: stay in our state of depravity and be eternally punished, or submit to the Savior and accept his gift of redemption.        unquote

Jesus is God and God is a god of love, mercy and forgiveness.  He is also a God of justice.  Justice for evil doers who are unrepentant and reject God's offer of salvation through his Son is not hate or revenge.  It is justice.  Sometimes the guilty must be punished.

Do you think the evil people in the world should not be punished simply because you think it would be hate or revenge?

You yourself commented strongly against the cruel people who rule Iran.  Would it be hate and revenge to punish those tyrannical rulers?   What about the people in the world who have opposed God and his word?  Should they just get off and be given a blanket pass?

Are you a person who knows more than God and his written word?

These are all threats and intimidation by religious fanatics trying to force obedience without question. It is evil if one hurts people, murder, rape, assault, corruption, entrapment, intimidations but it is not evil questioning what cannot be seen.

Evil is in actions not belief. Islamic shiite clergy who are committing mass murder and torture in the name of religion are all believers in God. According to you they will go to heaven and others who have never committed any wrongdoing in their lives but may doubt the existence of God will burn in hell. Bullshit. If this is your religion, I want no part of it. It is not much different than the one I rejected in the childhood.

Canada and western countries are built on historic Judeo-Christianity.  We brought in millions of immigrants from non Judeo-Christian countries, and have been abandoning Judeo-Christian principles.  Canada rejected Christianity in an official sense decades ago and adopted multiculturalism.

Christianity is totally different from Islam.  There is no comparison.  The Bible makes that clear.

Many of our laws are already based on Judeo-Christian teachings.  Examples are thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, etc. etc.  The British Empire abolished slavery around 200 years ago.  The west adopted human rights, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion which does not exist in Islamic countries.

You still hold some Islamic beliefs and try to marginalize people and prevent them from talking about religion.  Tough.  This is Canada and we have freedom of speech and freedom of religion.  So take a pill and chill out.

Iran isn't a religion, it's a country.
