Canadian banks that refuse to identify the carbon rebate by name when doing direct deposits are forcing the government to change the law to make them do it, says Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault.

His department has been battling with banks for almost two years over how carbon rebates are labelled when they are deposited directly into bank accounts.

So now we're passing propaganda laws.

Every time i turn around this guy is more of a tyrant.

Hyperbole much?

This sounds more like a case of a glacier telling another glacier to pick up the pace a little. I suppose I can see how a bankster that's horizontally integrated with the fossil fuel industry might throw a little wrench like this into the works to help push the agenda but it would sure be a petty way of doing so.

Has it really come to that, seriously?

Hahahaha...what a dumb f*cking thread.  It's now tyrannical for the government to force banks to identify specific deposits...because it's so so hard for them to do.  🤣

Hogwash.  As the article notes the banks systems have limits and there are other issues - the gov't is insisting they change where necessary so that they can promote the gov'ts propaganda policy.

When was the last time you saw parliament pass a law requiring banks or any other financial institution to use it's preferred language to make sure that voters credited them with giving them money?

As I understand it banks get their charters to operate as per the government's regulations.

When is the last time you saw a bank regulate itself?

Banks regulate themselves every day. Go look at your bank statement - all those codes by the transactions? All decided on by the bank. That's why we've never had legislation like this before - banks largely manage themselves.

Obviously you know what the gov't is doing is wrong or you wouldn't have said something so stupid.

Never in the history of banks in Canada has a bank been ordered by law to change their coding to promote gov't propaganda.

Hmmmmm

From your own cite:

Chartered banks, sometimes known as commercial banks, are public corporations that are licensed by the federal government to operate a banking business within Canada. By issuing these licenses (or charters), the Canadian government regulates and controls the country’s economy

So they are LICNESED by the federal gov't for the purpose of REGULATING the economy.

But they're not RUN by the gov't regulation. They just have to operate within it's license.

Wow. That's twice in as many days as you provided proof you were wrong and i'm right :)

God damn you're a freak :)

Yup that's right, with a licence that has whatever conditions the government wants, in this case the words Carbon Tax Rebate on Carbon Tax Rebate deposits.

Yes.  The gov't is misusing it's power to force the banks to comply with justin's propaganda and agenda..

Congratulation - you managed to work your way around to my initial point ;)  ROFLMAO!!!

Honestly Eyeball, some days you just kill me :)

Oh well, it'll still be there for Poilievre to abuse to his hearts content when it's his turn.

And he won't.

See - that's the difference between the kind of people I vote for and the kind you do. You approve of corruption and lies.  I don't.  It's basically the difference in our posts as well.  I prefer honesty and truth - you prefer lies and bullshit, and saying LMAO when you realise you've been busted :)   (or LOL if you're trying to be sneaky about it  :) )

You prefer raving and carrying on.  Nobody makes up more and bullshits more than you here.  Nobody spends as much time fighting here than you.  Nobody has less going on in their life, and fewer people to talk to, than you.

These are objective, honest truths.

Speaking of monkeys, here's one who opposes banks identifying where deposits come from simply because he doesn't "like" the govt party policy that made them, yet is absolutely silent and accepting gas price hikes of up to 30¢/L for 'the switch to summer blend'.

Passing on 1000% markup on their cost is just fine because they're corporate entities who should be able to tell the govt to f^ck off. Just like BibleThumper says in his thread about Bell, the "poor corporate hostage of socialism".

Some ppl believe big business should tell govt what to do. Anything else is communist....

And who exactly wants business to tell government what to do? The governments prime responsibilities in regulating business and the economy is to provide a level playing field for all participants, protect consumers, and to protect assets and property. What's being described here sounds a little coercive in my opinion. It's sort of like ... do exactly what we tell you to do or we're gonna pass laws and force you to do it. It's petty and stupid.

ROFLMAO - well i guess that's one way of saying i live rent free in your head without saying it  :)

Kid.  You're not very smart.  You think you are but you're not.  And now you're angry and bitter because I rub your nose in that fact regularly.'

I get it.  If it helps you to vent like a lunatic,  i guess that's what you've got to do.
