This "STOP-HARPER-AT-ALL COST" brutal dirty campaign smacks of a desperate cling to power.

But is there more to this desperation than meets the eye?

A caller to a talk show raised a valid reason for such desperation. Harper government might un-earth more buried theft and corruptions. And with the Conservatives in power, a more likely meting out of justice.

I tend to believe that.

I tend to think that too, its almost surreal. The hyper mudslinging from Martin sure gives one pause for thought.

Good point Betsy. I have been wondering about this myself. There is an almost terrifying 'desperation' behind Martin's remarks these last few days. I can't believe that is simply losing his position as PM. I don't believe it is because he cares about Canada, he has proven the opposite for too many years. So what is it that has him screaming lies about the other parties? So yes I do believe that once the Conservatives form the government and start looking into the finances they will uncover more fraud, more corruption and more liberal ineptitude.

I've heard rumors about that too. I don't know if it is true but it certainly seems possible. The Liberal Party appears to be corrupt to the core (and arrogant).

Makes one wonder if the paper shredders are working overtime...

Paul "I didn't know nuttin" Martin has seen the internal polls done by his campaign and he knows he is in trouble. That's why he is calling for NDP "progressives" and that is why he dropped the A Bomb (Abortion).

If there's more to be found, I hope it happens after the Accountability Bill mandates jail sentences. I can't think of anything other than winning the lottery that I would enjoy more than seeing the Liberals get their just desserts.

This is a reasonable assumption. I personally, think Adscam is merely the tip of the iceberg. The nastiness we've seen can partly be attributed to Liberal hubris, but Friday night and yesterday, Martin turned up the fear mongering quite a few of notches. His frothing at the mouth stump speeches had to have been embarassing to all but the diehards. Paul Martin the new Don Quixote of Canadian politics.

Rather than making a mountain out of a mole hill on the talking point (deperation), take a step back and notice that the same tactic worked for the Liberals last election. File this under "if it worked last time... "

Harper government might un-earth more buried theft and corruptions. And with the Conservatives in power, a more likely meting out of justice.

You can reverse that logic and assume that the reason the opposition rushed to call the election before the full Gomery report was released was because it would show much less corruption and they would stand a lesser chance of unseating the Liberals. I'm not saying that's the case, but it's as valid as the above comment based on what we know.

More of the same eh Betsy... More vague accusations, its really unbelievable. This whole campaign the other parties have been accusing the Liberals of all sorts of illegle activity... yet no one in the Government has ever been charged with anything, yes there were some within the party structure who took advantadge of us.

This is idea of uncovering more scandal or wrongdoing is bullshit and you know it.

I'd like to know why Harper is muzzeling his candidates about the matters that matter to Canadians, why are party brown shirts pulling media away from Candidates if they ask questions they don';t want asked.. thats the real scandal here.

disgusting really. And I truely believe you are a CPC hack.

Aside from the hidden crimes the Liberals have done that might get exposed with a Tory win, we are also witnessing a corrupt party about to go down hard and they know it. Power corrupts, and Martin right now is at his worst.

Keep an eye on Industry Canada and Indian Affairs.........

If Sheila Fraser is ever allowed to do a 'value for money' audit in DIAND, it will be a colossal bloodbath.

Re: Martin letting it all out -really, isn't this his legacy? What does he have to lose? He knows that if he loses, he is gone within 90 days. If he somehow wins a minority, he'll spend the next few months fighting off many leadership contenders before he is forced out anyway.

The government should do something.

DIAND: $7 billion annually, no external audit, reservations in a shambles, an ongoing health crisis in First Nations people...... and it has been going on for decades. All gravy for Ms. Fraser. Harper would be wise to jump all over this early, before it comes back to bite him in the ass.

Paul Martin only drinks human blood that has been previously drained from the babies that Harper eats. This is why Harper will not only cancel abortion entirely, but force every woman in Canada to breeed, breed, breed. Food supply for the right of center.......

The government should do something.

Add to these the "Foundations" that Shelia Fraser wasn't allowed to look at.

Billions sitting in accounts untouched and not being able to be seen.

Martin and the Liberals will pay the price for their hidden agenda if all of this is looked at.

I think it has more to do with Martin's character. He has no idea how to lose gracefully and is behaving like such a jerk as a result. He showed the same childishness when he lost to Chretien in the Liberal leadership way back.

Here is a great post from Paul Well's on that. (Dated yesterday).

There's no mystery here.

Paul Martin did the same thing in June 2004 when he crossed the country from Newfoundland to Vancouver in a single 20 hour day. It's his way of campaigning. He's a passionate guy and he wants to show people that he really, really wants it. Campaign politics are part theatre.

In fact, he's a bit like a chicken with its head cut off and theatrics should never be confused with theatre.

There are few things as hard as leading a losing campaign. I suspect handlers are making sure Martin only gets the good news.

Betsy,

I really pray and hope that there isn't more corruption, it's bad for the country even if it is good for the campaigns of opposing parties, I don't think we should actually hope that the change in government uncovers more corruption, unless it's actually there.

It's really tempting to overstate the case against liberal corruption, i'm not a liberal voter myself and i do think they should go for complicity either by act or omission in Adscam, and definitely if there are liberal mp's, party members etc. who have committed crimes, there should be justice for them, just as there will be justice for conrad black. But assuming that campaign desperation is evidence for more corruption is only an assumption. Jack layton looks equally desperate in asking for a loan of votes, and his party appears on all counts to be squeaky clean (svend robinson's ring incident seemed to stem from mental illness rather than lack of ethics, and is isolated and carries no relationships with other party members.)

I resist being placed on the political left-right spectrum myself, yet people usually would place me to the left, but I absolutely do not appreciate the comments from shakeyhands, I am extremely passionate about raising the level of discourse amongst anyone, and his contribution was extremely poor.

I hope that the freezing rain in CP did not inconvenience you, many best wishes for you and your family.

Ya sorry eureka, I already have the secret police on you.

I think we are ready for the commission for anti-Canadian activities now right?

That assumption is based on a faulty premise. The portion of the Gomery report dealing with accountability has already been released. The remaining portion of the Gomery report is not about assigning blame. The remaining section is recommendations for improving accountability and transparency in government.

Yes it has begun. The Dark Master Karl Rove personally told me that the first thing he was going to do was disable Eureka's Sent Messages box at Mapleleafweb.com
