1. I fear that any State scheme to pay for new medical procedures will reduce the incentives to discover new medication.

2. Moreover, it opens the likelihood of conservative abuse

3. In Canada, we can free ride on the private US system.

1. Why?

2. How?

3. What?

I am amazed that there is no response, no opinion on this thread.

The federal Liberals and NDP just signed a federal pharmacare bill.

With this law, there will be fewer incentives for new drugs, or new medication.

We have no real research pharma companies in Canada so  to "discover new medication" in Canada is a non starter.

Disagree about people in Canada.

But in your view, we Canadians are free-riders. Like the US Dems. Other people will find these miracle drugs.

People??

I said pharma companies.

And yes, we are free riders to American and international pharma companies.

"60% of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) are produced in China while 70% of finished pharmaceuticals (such as tablets) are produced in India. This translates to 70% of all finished prescription drugs in Canada and 90% of all components used in drugs manufactured domestically originating from abroad."

More government spending. Oh goodie. And more taxation of working folks. Marvelous.

With this, the pharma corps will flood doctors with incentives and Canada will become even more of a drug addled society.

Got an ouchie? Take a pill. Feel bad today? Take a pill. What? You're now addicted to the pills? We got a pill for that too.

And the lie behind it all?

Don't worry about the cost...

It's free.
