Breaking: New theory unites Einstein’s gravity with quantum mechanics

MAGA CULT, just move on; this is not for you to make jokes about. ;)

Quote

A radical theory that consistently unifies gravity and quantum mechanics while preserving Einstein’s classical concept of spacetime is announced today in two papers published simultaneously by UCL (University College London) physicists.

Modern physics is founded upon two pillars: quantum theory on the one hand, which governs the smallest particles in the universe, and Einstein’s theory of general relativity on the other, which explains gravity through the bending of spacetime. But these two theories are in contradiction with each other and a reconciliation has remained elusive for over a century.

The prevailing assumption has been that Einstein’s theory of gravity must be modified, or “quantised”, in order to fit within quantum theory. This is the approach of two leading candidates for a quantum theory of gravity, string theory and loop quantum gravity.

But a new theory, developed by Professor Jonathan Oppenheim (UCL Physics & Astronomy) and laid out in a new paper in Physical Review X (PRX), challenges that consensus and takes an alternative approach by suggesting that spacetime may be classical – that is, not governed by quantum theory at all.

This is because @Legato beat you up over computer science isn't it :)

It's interesting  but if they're correct it creates almost as many problems as it solves (which of course is not unheard of).  To be a little blunt - it kind of sounds like something someone who's sick of trying to figure out quantum gravity would come up with :)   But - unlike many of the other theories including "string" theory (not called that anymore) at least this has a definitive test. So we can find out.

He gives a speech about this and it's on youtube for those who are interested.  This kind of reminds me of the pilot wave theory for the solution to the waveform issue with quantum objects, trying to marry macro mechanics to the quantum world, and that looked promising for a while but in the end it just didn't stand up.

Dr. Henry Pym made the first breakthrough, he wrote many articles which proved the antecedent in a rather waspish manner.

In reality, "string theory" is referenced in the article cited in the  OP, so contrary to CdnLIAR's claim, it is STILL CALLED THAT.

By leftard standards math is: 1,2,3, many.... and anything tricker than that is racist.

Unless you're a conservative then this thread might as well be called "KKK 101".

WTF is going on here? Did robo just have a conservative moment? If so, does that mean that our brand is tainted, or are we just becoming too popular?

Hey robo, look at this you leftard cult muppet: Бүх зүүний үзэлтнүүд коммунистууд

Don't even bother trying to read that leftists. Move on.

(See what I did there? Do you see the similarity between that and your own post?)

If the Cultist Narrative Network/Cultist Broadcasting Corporation gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed.

Well nooo, thats the term that's used for the masses who don't really know better. You know - the 'yous' of the universe :)

String theory appeared in the 70's and was a specific proposed concept - String theory itself didn't pan out  but  it led to superstring theory and onwards, and most work done today is on things like m-theory as well as branches like super-symmetry.  I mean nobody seriously thinks there might be 23 dimensions anymore right? The original string theory didn't hold out but it's lead to many new ideas and theories starting with superstring.  But 'string theory' is commonly recognized so it's a good word to use for the general public to describe the general sort of body of research.Fun fact - there's a lot of argument in the science community if the term 'theory' should even be used with even the more modern superstring theories. In science a 'theory' is a mostly proven thing, and none of the 'string' theories have been or likely can be proven.

Thanks - i take it you have an interest in physics as well? The double slit experiment changed my life :)

String Theory has metamorphosed into M-theory (Membrane Theory),

Now just stop that -  you KNOW he's only memorized the alphabet up to K, you're mocking him needlessly.

Sorry my DMA controllers string broke, that's the theory anyway.

Sure. And we're supposed to believe you know more than the UCL Physicists quoted in the OP article. LMAO

Check the flux capacitor. That's usually the problem.

When I was at university, I was leaving a comp sci lecture when a physics-major friend came in, saw me, and told me to grab a seat right away.  It was a 350-seat lecture hall.  Then come people came in and cordoned off the first two rows, and my friend explain those seats were for the Nobel laureates (my school had a lot of them).

In rolled Stephen Hawking, who proceeded to deliver a lecture on the existence of wormholes. Great lecture, but the math was a bit complex.  I worked with one of Hawking’s students a few years later, and asked him about the lecture. What I always wanted to know was how large or small these wormholes are.

It turns out, that’s the question of them all, and he answered me, and it goes directly to the heart of the grand unification theory, whatever it may ultimately be.

Of course you don't understand what that meant, dummy. You should have just moved on.

The point that I very clearly made there was that anyone can dig up info on the internet, link it and quote it. It doesn't mean that they understand any of it.

As of right now I've displayed as much of an understanding of the Mongolian language as you have of the copy/paste job in your OP.

And dude, I'd be terrified to find out that you were smart enough to understand something as complex as what you posted about and yet dumb enough to still watch CNN and just take it all in, somehow still thinking it was true.

Your mom would be so proud. "Look at Jr... He just graduated from Harvard with a PhD and he's only 15. Now he's heading to the North Pole to get a job in Santa's workshop. I just don't have the heart to tell him...."

OF course I found out what it meant with google translate. The same way  YOU CREATED IT.  Duh

And you couldn't even figure out that hint. LMAO

My understanding is what it is. AKA, NOT RELEVANT.

As I said before, the ONLY thing I ever (but rarely) watch on CNN is "State of the Union."

IOW, your MEMORY IS SHOT.

Where do you get ^these stupid fantasies? They make you look like a M0R0N when you post them here.

Do you want to look like a M0R0N?
