Moonlight Graham Posted December 2, 2023 Report Posted December 2, 2023 Today I purchased a pre-packaged salad from my local grocery stole. It contained separated/sealed ingredients like nuts, dressing to add to the salad. One of the ingredients was pre-cut apple slices. I have purchased this salad kit many times in the past and always noticed that these apple slices never turn brown when exposed to air, een though it's been sitting in the store for days (though air-sealed) I found this odd. So today I did an experiment. When eating one of these salads I saved one of the apple slices and placed it on the counter. Several hours later I came back and the apple slice still hadn't turned brown in any way whatsoever. Shocking. After some research I discovered a company in Canada has created a genetically-modified apple they call an "arctic apple" that doesn't brown or dramatically resists browning. Just so apple slices can look nice and fresh while sitting on the shelf at the grocer. Gross. Legato Posted December 2, 2023 Report Posted December 2, 2023 Yes that does sound gross. Wife made an apple pie last weekend. Slice up half a lemon into bowl with water, peel and cut apples rinse in lemon water, stops them browning. Quote

Because choosing seeds from plants you like to re-plant is a lot different than going in with a microscope and editing its DNA inside its nucleus and creating a mutant. How is the process of how the Apple got its DNA determine that it’s gross? The DNA from the non-browning apple versus the naturally browning apple is only different in how it got there. Why does that make it “gross”? 8 hours ago, OftenWrong said: They should make gmo chickens with six wings, that way you get more wings per chicken. herbie Posted December 3, 2023 Report Posted December 3, 2023 I should try those apples. Can't be worse than those tasteless Red Delicious apples they use for commercial grade apple pies (that are 80& added sugar). More concerning is how store bought actual frozen pies are disappearing from shelves and the Industrial Grade ones are full of core parts and even stems these days. I sure miss the wife, she baked all the time. I'm useless at that and baking for just one is a waste of time and money. Quote
