I am not a fan of traffic jams either hence why I am looking to get a remote job and move to a smaller town (but not too small)  out West. Reno is fine but my current 40-mile one way commute gets old.

40 mile commute? ARGH! The saying "Cold day in Hell" comes to mind.

I wanna wake up...have a coffee on my porch or back deck, and decide whether to go golfing or fishing for the morning. Then I want to take a nap and BBQ dinner. Then...tea and "newfie-newfie" with my high-strung Euro-wife. Then...snore like the dickens...rinse and repeat.

Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.

sounds like a great living. One reason that I will probably never leave the West is the wide open spaces. One can have a life like what you describe and not have a neighbor for 20+ miles

Nope. You don't know the first thing about living off the grid. New Wokers will be f*cked the moment the trucks stop and the power gets knocked out indefinitely.

New Woke is 4th in strictest gun laws, so self defense/self preservation goes right out the window as well. ;)

See son, that's your problem, you live in a dream world prepared for an inevitability that will never happen. In other words "Your a Fruit loop". Enjoy your off the grid time and worthless life

We're also better because we make more money for just about any type of work. NY state Po Po 200k, Tenured Teachers 150k, just about any of the trades inc iron workers, Union Electricians, Construction 150k. Auto mechanics 125k.

Yea Yea, the old driving people out of NY because of expensive real estate. Expensive real estate is created by people, not by an exodus of people. Many of the examples I've shown will sell in a few days, with bidding wars that ad another 100k to the price. No body is leaving NY. Actually there's a trend now of people moving back into NY city. Population has gone up 400k in the last yr and a half with business booming everywhere. Doesn't quite fit the everyone is leaving NY narrative that rightwingdingalings are always bleating about

It’s also exacerbated by planning and zoning restrictions preventing greater density of housing. However, there are some signs that nimbyism may have peaked down there:

For years, neighborhoods in New York City and the New York suburbs have had near veto power over land-use and housing development decisions. That could soon change. In the 51-seat City Council, momentum is gathering to end a practice known as “member deference,” in which the entire body lets a member decide the fate of land-use proposals in his or her district.

Quote

Given the scale of the crisis, these efforts to build more housing are essential and urgent. The median rent in the city has undergone a double-digit percentage increase from prepandemic levels in every borough but Staten Island, according to data from StreetEasy.

The good news is that housing is at long last a political priority. If it doesn’t build more housing, and quickly, New York will soon shut out young, working-class and middle-class people. Only the wealthiest will remain, along with NIMBY holdouts sprinkled across the city. What a lonely, sterile end to New York that would be.

Gee, if New York is so wonderful, then you liberals won't have any problem with Florida and Texas shipping all those ILLEGAL ALIEN animals there. They can have a better life.

The RACIST Martha's Vineyard didn't want them. Guess there's a problem with colored folk on that island.

In all fairness.. most places out west have seen major increases in housing cost. On a percentage basis.. probably higher than what you see in NYC. Nominal or absolute form, they are way lower than NYC. The real issue is that rental costs have gone up more than wages. As for increasing the supply.. there are barriers to that happening quickly.

Alright Goobers now come tell me how money isn't everything,

The biggest racists are in NY, as evidenced by your own posts.

I think it would be ducky if you stayed in NY so that decent people could have the whole rest of the country to enjoy.

Envy? Pfft...hardly. I'd have to be paid a king's ransom to move to a shithole like NYC. Even then...I might not move.

See...I happen to like sane places. Toronto is far from sane now. Hence I'm looking for another place to call home. A nice little town on a lake with a golf course or two, a pizza place, and a pub. A place where its safe to wonder around after dark.

None of which is NYC.

Moved out of Toronto 15 years ago. Small town, two good pubs and two fish a chip shops. Never looked back.

Cities are great for young kids.

I lived in Metrotown (Burnaby) when I was a young adult and I loved it.

When the novelty of it all wears off and you've been in the grind for a decade or so, you start to take stock of the higher cost of living and all the time wasted on commuting.

Before covid was a thing I talked to our daughters about choosing careers where they could work online, such as in graphic arts or something, so that they could earn an urban wage from a more inexpensive area. Back then you could get 3/4 of an acre and a nice house on some of the islands between Van and Vict for $600K.

Oh man, did covid ever change that in a hurry. All of a sudden everyone was working remotely. No matter, they chose teaching and kinesiology anyways.

NYC was always too much for me on my visits. Driving the Long Island Expressway was a nightmare. Unlike the song, I noticed that out in Flushing it is very much a city that sleeps and early too. Some of the train stations were utterly deserted by the time I got back from Manhattan. Everyone was knackered and preparing for another early morning in the rat race.

Wow, you've got it all figured out, don't you?

So tell me, when you earn $150K as a teacher, what kid of home do you live in? What kind of car do you drive? How much crime is there in your neighbourhood? How many of the kids you teach are in gangs?

Sadly for you the Chief of Police isn't allowing illegal immigrants come to live in NYC. It would be so much better if he did, but they al gotta stay down south, right?

Your city is like London UK, Hong Kong or the like.

I remember looking for apartments in London, and saw this tiny one  renting for about 3000USD (back in 2004). Prime location. And the kicker. It came with a stove. "Bonus!".

Buy your own refrigerator, and take your laundry to the laundry mat.

A "bargain!", I thought to myself sarcastically.

Actually scratch that. You're nothing like Hong Kong.

City is insanely clean, best public transportation system in the world, hands down and one of the safest cities I have ever been to.

I don't know. Bragging about living in NYC to me, is fine. Beautiful city.

But boasting that it is the best city, or ridiculing others, to me is like that person who's jeans look identical to mine, but then they tell me:

"Yeah, well mine are Sezane jeans and cost 375$".

Like paying triple for the same thing was worthy of boasting. O_o

New York is cold, and its eyeballs are bulging with woketards. You think you diapered psychopaths will survive when shit REALLY hits the fan? lol

I somehow this Armageddon "shit hits the fan" thing ever happened what makes you think that because your some kind hokie home grown hero you'd survive. You describe yourself as prepared (prepper) for a situation that's never happened before and you've never experienced other than in your wet fantasies.

If this happened you'd probably be shot in the back from a treeline by your neighbors 16 yr old son who's a fare shot with his scoped deer rifle. That's after him n his buddies set your house on fire.

You think you're a full of wisdom country bumkin who's safe because your away from any city. Well news flash Jack, there's 330 million of us here you're going to have to keep an eye out for.

See, now you woketard climate sluts can get an idea where we normal people are coming from. We all know climate change is complete bullshit, even you perverts know it, and yet you can't stfu about it even though nothing's happening.

F*cking hypocrites. lol

That's where you climate whores are wrong. Trucks stopping and power going out is what's reality; The Day After Tomorrow is complete fiction.

The sooner you woketards pull your heads out of the UN's a$$, the happier you'll be. ;)

Odd, I never mentioned climate? But you seemed dead nuts focused on it. Of course with your PHD in climate science I guess we'll have to believe you.

this could change when July numbers come out but on an annual basis, total nonfarm jobs in NY grew by 2.2% while in FL, this increased  by 3.3%. Now this is doing the following.. (june 2023 - June 2022)/June 2022. This comes from the Current Employment Statistics which is a monthly ESTIMATE... plug numbers in a model and it spits out the number.

As for the top 5

1. Texas 4.04%

2. Nevada 3.97%

3. New Mexico  3.81%

4. Wyoming 3.67%

5 (tie) Washington and Florida  3.40%

6. Delaware  3.40%

7. Idaho  3.39%

8, Kentucky  3.26%

9. Alaska  3.13%

10. Oregon  3.01%

28. New York  2.24%

You do believe in climate change, don't you? When I refer to you as a climate whore, it means you believe the globe is on fire and we're all about to die.

Are you saying that is not the case, and that you are more in line with the UN in that you think we'll all be dead in 7 or 8 years?
