Jagmeet Singh winner of the worst housing policy of 2023

Taking tax dollars from low-income Canadians and redistributing it to bolster the wealth of property owners is nothing short of asinine

I thought federal Housing Minister Ahmed Hussen’s “just trust the mayors” and “housing isn’t political” screed was a shoe-in for worst housing take of the summer, but it only took one week for NDP leader Jagmeet Singh to outdo even him.

The idea that the government should take tax dollars from low-income, working class and young Canadians and redistribute it to bolster the wealth of property owners, an increasing share of whom are multiple property investors, is nothing short of asinine.

The suggestion combines the worst impulses of socialist central planning with the worst winners-take-all compulsions of trickle-down economics

Beyond the proposal’s innate rigged-market unfairness, it would further turbocharge unaffordability and increase the risk of a dangerous bubble collapse. It would also actively work against the Bank of Canada’s monetary policy and fuel inflation.

Yep - it's dumb.  Right now it feels like Jaggers isn't even really trying to come up with a winning strategy for the NDP.  He's just kind of rattling off whatever pops into his head.

I don't think the CPC can count on a lot of NDP vote splitting with teh libs this time out -  i think Jaggers is going to disappoint.

Well perhaps PP can come up with a $200 rebate for homeowners before Trudeau does then.

Of course Jagmeet's idea is stupid. A real Dipper would suggest nationalizing mortgages into a Crown Corp. central bank.

So your answer to a stupid idea is another stupid idea?

Man - the way the left thinks it's no wonder we're in this mess.

Now my friend can only afford to pay off the interest every month on his mortage with the rates having been jacked high.  So at this rate he will never pay off his mortgage.

Well if it's any comfort, that means he wont' be able to pay his mortgage after the next rate hike so he'll go into default and lose the home and it won't be a problem any more.

Might not be much comfort after all now that i think about it.

He has to renegotiate his mortgage and lengthen it

Jagmeet wants to double down on the same kind of insanity that got us here. Very hard to take this guy seriously.

Almost impossible.  And i think it'll show in the next election.
