And what have they used that money for? Not to improve the quality of education, that's for sure. Not to build more dorms to hold them. No, to hire more DEI people. Hordes of administrators to cater to everyone's sense of grievance, envy and resentment, and do all kinds of studies, hold hearings, draw up new regulations. Tuition and administration continue to grow apace with no end in sight for either.

So, you answered your own question of what they spent the money on.

They spent it on all the things the students want and of course, increased wages for staff.

The difference is that most of these students come from cultures where cheating is endemic. And they are accompanied by accusations that the admins turn their eyes away, not wanting to disturb the funding model.

Ahh, it's a cultural thing. Indians and Chinese are cheaters.

Again with accusations but no evidence or proof.

The purpose of universities is not to coddle and cater to the whims of emotionally immature students but to challenge, educate and enlighten them. They are not supposed to be retail enterprises devoted to customer satisfaction but educational arms of the state. Else why do we put so much taxpayer funding into them?

May be right but....in the age of helicopter parenting, coddling and catering to the whims of immature students is what we have done to ourselves.

I certainly hope that you, a mature student are aware that the basically free education system is a drain on our economy.

What do you know, cheating in universities ,(and high schools) is going on....

Surprised? I am not.

Not only that.  We have staffing issues like in healthcare.  I think, it's better that they get their education and training in Canada.  I don't mind that they end up migrating here

I agree with that but if we're going to take that attitude then as a country we HAVE to build the infrastructue to accommodate that many new residents.  OR limit their numbers to what we can build.  If you want a million people to live here even if it's just for a few years, then you need a million places for them to stay.  If you only have 100 thousand places then you can only let in 100,000.   Simplified for example of course but you get the idea  i'm sure.

Among the 80 million, we Canadians are very good at bringing these new-borns into cvilised society.

Our society is neither cvilised nor civilized.

But if you mean we are above the level of hanging off tree branches, yes, you are right.

Foreign students. It's a BUSINESS!  In conjunctions with schools.  I suppose everyone gets a piece of the pie.

It's not only universities doing this.  We were hosts of foreign students until 2019 (just the start of covid), living in a small suburb city.  The students were attending high school!

All the foreign students in our area were mostly high school students.  Most of them were trying to learn English too (though some we've had were already fluent).  I must say - the Japanese are so exemplary with their studies (Japanese we had were scholars sent here)!   They were always studying - hardly gone out of their rooms.  But the others from other countries belong to wealthy families.  We were fortunate to have had nice kids.

But with the two Michaels being held at the time in China - we decided to stop hosting Chinese kids.  We eventually decided not to continue being hosts at all in the end.

A lot of these students are also sold the fake Canadian dream

I saw a documentary on India, and how predatory these practices are.

How so many teachers in Ontario schools, complained about their difficulty to explain the materials to so many of the students, who clearly do not meet any of the prerequisites.

They are sold the cushy white collar job, whereas in reality, are destined to work minimum wage corner store, gas station and fast food jobs, for life.

If lucky, they get a gig as a cab driver, but those types of jobs typically are done by highly educated individuals.

Of course, this doesn't point to the many highly skilled Indians that come to Canada. My family doctor is the best doctor I have ever had.

He constantly told me about the hardships he faced to get respect as a child, even though he now owns a massive medical clinic.

I faced this issue first hand, in the Philippines.

So many "fixers", prey on desperate families trying to get out of poverty.

My wife's family is similar, albeit they are affluent, and many of them are high ranking politicians and military personel.

Even then, you are literally spending your life savings, to make the leap of faith. Some in India had sold their land, all their cars, in some cases, just for their kids to work at McDonald's in Canada.

Hearing some of those parents crying about those very realities, is quite striking. Some legit believe Canada doesn't have stringent standards.

She did things the right way (IE work in Hong Kong which has stringent regulations), but it was painfully difficult for us to get her approved (under sponsorship).

So many use fixers, and I had contacted one before, who are willing to provide you with fake passports, currency, etc.

I am not about to go to Jail in the Philippines, so thought the fixers were crazy in approaching a foreigner.

My wife appreciates how blunt I was.

"Your English is clearly advanced, but you have an accent, so will be discriminated as to being inferior".

She had accepted, even as a high educated person, to start at the bottom.

But being smart, she networks very well, and understood that down time meant time she could improve her skills.

Sadly, very few who come here have those types of networks, feeling doomed to work factory style jobs, and saving pennies for back home, for life.
