President Vladimir V. Putin mobilized Russian troops on Saturday to put down what he called an armed rebellion by the mercenary leader Yevgeny V. Prigozhin, whose forces had claimed control of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and were seen moving north along a highway toward Moscow.

As security forces were scrambled in southwestern Russia and Moscow, military convoys believed to belong to Mr. Prigozhin’s Wagner forces were seen in the town of Elets, about 250 miles from the capital.

In a brief address to the nation on Saturday morning, Mr. Putin called Mr. Prigozhin a traitor who had delivered “a stab in the back of our country and our people.” He said that military and civilian functions had “essentially been blocked” in Rostov, an important military hub for Russia’s war in Ukraine, an implicit acknowledgment of some success by Mr. Prigozhin, an erstwhile Putin ally whose forces have fought alongside the Russian Army in Ukraine.

The confrontation marked the most dramatic threat to the Russian president’s power since he took over leadership in 1999, and came at a pivotal moment in Russia’s war in Ukraine.”

It is good that at least the Wagner group may be somewhat neutralized even if Putin is not deposed.

If Putin's army is deployed in Ukraine what's standing between Wagner and Moscow?

A massive redeployment. Putin will protect HIMSELF. Which is good for Ukraine.

It’s definitely a win for Zelensky.

Putin could have walked away with billions, and instead started a needless war which now threatens to take down his government.  A mercenary army of 25,000 marching into your own cities against war-weary conscripts is damn hard to stop.  You can’t bomb your own cities and win.

The guy could reach Moscow in two days with 25,000 well-armed soldiers. He could win. Not saying he will, but he could.

If he did, Putin would be long gone. What then?

Side note, he is already backing down. Putin likely recognized the massive threat and likely made a deal with him.

However, the trust is gone, so will be interesting to see how this carries itself out, with Putin now unable to trust some of his own, compounding the pressure already mounting on his shoulders.

well..... these guys actually brought guns :)

But either way this is going to be a bit of a shake up.

Oath Keepers had lots of guns across the river in VA waiting for Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act.

The Insurrection Act authorizes the president to deploy military forces inside the United States to suppress rebellion or domestic violence or to enforce the law in certain situations.

It's clear that Trump was too chicken to put HIS HANDS on the insurrection HE INCITED.

Instead, he threw his most ardent supporters (who did not want to risk massive violation of DC's gun control laws) under the bus. LMAO
