IMHO, Europeans as a race are violent people.

When the males forget the violence, they start again.

Do you figure Europeans are more violent than other denominations?

Its so lonely in m'saddle since m'horse died.

For the past several centuries, you Americans are peaceful - except around 1860.

Europeans? Crazy violent. 1789-1815, 1914-1945.

It won’t be better for all the species that will disappear, courtesy of the Anthropocene.

Anthropocene?

is that a technical term - like when elevators were supposed to stop on 1 Jan 2000?

That era which began when our effect on the planet was so large it could be seen in the geological record and ecosystems.

Ok...so I sense you're saying that perhaps there are too many different cultures in Europe to be at peace for any extended period of time?

I live in Montreal.

Some 30,000 years ago my city was buried under a glacier, a kilometer or two of ice.

Then, around 10.000 tears ago, a natural dam in northwestern Ontario (Devil's Crater) collapsed and the Lake Agassiz flowed to the Atlantic.

My city is a result.

History isn’t cyclical. It undulates. And I think we’re surfing on a wonderful wave that’s losing momentum. There are simply too many of us on this pale blue dot and we are going through Gaia’s reserves at a fearsome clip. Climate change is, well, the tip of the melting iceberg; hundreds of new environmental horrors await if we can survive our fights with each other.
