When you say 'republicans did this thing", then it turns out they had nothing to do with it, you run into a problem.

We’re the people who “did this thing” Republicans or Democrats? They were Republicans.  FusionGPS started this work with Republican money, not Democrat money.  Then Fusion went o the Democrats, said, “Hey, look at all this work we started, we think we’re onto something, just pay us a little more and we’ll finish it up.”  
 

There’s nothing wrong with opposition research.  In fact, we needed more of it in Santos’ election.

Now you're just lying outright. A private person invested in a website as one of a number of investors, and that website paid for research which was NOT the steele research which was done later.  The republicans didn't pay a nickle.

This wasn't opposition research. This was fabricating information in a manner to make it look plausable for long enough.
