A lawyer for Han Dong has served Global News and its parent company Corus Entertainment with a libel notice after the media outlet published an allegation the Toronto MP spoke to a Chinese diplomat about delaying the release of two Canadians.

 

Han Dong -   " i am stepping down to fight the allegations made against me".

Han Dong Fighting Allegations -  " YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO TELL ANYONE!!!!!!"

Anyway - good luck. This kind of thing has gone to court more than once and it never ends well for the Han Dongs of the world. If anything the libs will be pissed about it because when it fails it'll just propell this back into the public's eye.

Anyway - the liberals actually HAVE the actual transcript of the meeting, if there's no evidence there that he did this they could just release it anytime and we can all decide for ourselves. Unless there's something to hide.

In some jurisdictions, e.g. Ireland, UK, a lawsuit of this type would cause concern for anyone moderating a forum like we have here.

This is Canada.

Global is going to have to prove it's case, not Dong prove his innocence. Refusing to reveal sources might make them lose if they can't do it another way. That's how libel laws work.
