After the ill-fated attempt by the Biden administration to monitor Americans' speech online, Jackson Lee introduced the Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023 to assign criminal punishment for certain forms of hate speech. The bill's language is broad and could result in people facing criminal charges for sharing hateful content, including on social media. Two points to make: 1. The First Amendment was not created for popular speech. 2. Everything that spews from her Nazi pie hole IS HATE SPEECH. The only white supremacists today are the Democrats. Encouraging violence is not allowed by the First Amendment. I think. An American can correct me here if I'm wrong. I would put encouraging and inciting in the same vein. As for spewing hatred, I support the right of anyone to spew hatred if they want. I might despise it, but who the hell am I? Edit> That's not to say there won't be consequences. I also support the right of organisations to censor speech, and fire people who don't meet their standards, etc. I might despise that too, but it's their right. So the threshold for invoking charges is lower in this proposed bill than in Canada.
