Canada and Austria-Hungary: Sustainable?

Recommended Posts

Nowadays, the word "sustainable" has a different meaning. Stable is one thing. Predictable another.

Pierre Trudeau wisely said that a State can have several official languages.

But a sustainable State can have no official cultural.

====

Trudeau Snr also said that the "The State has no business in the bedrooms of the nation."

For any Canadian, this is true. Each province decides such family law.

And then he and Liberal leaders who followed him set about committing cultural genocide against English Canada while doing everything they could to preserve Quebec's culture.

Strongly disagree.

=====

Montreal and Singapore, still today, are cities where different people speak differently.

They speak at home one way, they speak in public differently.

Vienna and Bratislava were once cities like this.

Even Lviv.

By the criteria Trudeau has established describing cultural genocide his father is guilty of it. As is Jean Chretien.

Utterly irrelevant.

Even Lvov - a city of mixed language.

In Europe, you have horrendous wars every century or so.

Heck, I fear that people in Amsterdam with their bicycles are about to provoke another World War l

Groot,

Our Canada - we Canadians - have created a civilised place in the world.

How? Because ordinary Canadian voters don't vote for Trudeau simply because he has a French name, or even because he's Catholic. Or even because his father was PM.

In modern federal Canada, many people (women) vote Liberal because he's cute.

In Canada (and every where else in the world, including Russia), there is a small paper with several names.

Behind a booth, you put an X beside one of the names. You fold the paper.

And then you put the paper in a box.

I have seen this happen in Russia, Canada and Sri Lanka.

====

In the US, apparently, there are many names. The US ballot is now like our Canadian census form. Many questions and runners willing to change the world.

Vote? Who cares. Each person in Quebec means $1000 for equaliization..

There isn't much difference between French and English. The English and French were the same people until recently. English is a dialect of French with some German and Danish thrown in. French has been the language of our government for well over a thousand years. Our first Head of State who even learned to speak English was John. The English royal family and the French royal family were the same family. French and English heritage, culture and language have been bound together for many centuries.

This term genocide, which literally means the killing of a people, is thrown around and used loosely to describe situations like one cultural group becoming dominant over many decades or centuries, even when the original group that began to dominate no longer exists.  As we began describing the dominance of European settlers in Canada as cultural genocide, isn’t it ironic that most immigrants to Canada today are from formerly colonized countries? Who dominates Canada today that can be traced back to 1867?  The French Canadians? Well their numbers are decreasing relative to the growing provinces in the rest of Canada.  Which groups are growing fastest?  Muslims and Indigenous.  Who gets the most government payouts and benefits? Indigenous.  Who is one of the fastest shrinking cultural groups?  Canadians of English background.  Is this good?  Well, where did our parliamentary democracy come from?  England.

In my federal Canada, the 1800s - French Catholic guys voted for a Protestant guy, like Macdonald

And Protestant guys voted for someone like Laurier.

In my Canada, we cross lines.

Yeah well we're not in the 1800s and that doesn't happen any more. Those French Catholic guys don't vote for anyone who isn't a French Catholic if they have a choice.
