This is from 2016

Perhaps hearing 45 claim that there were "fine people" amongst a group of White Supremacists would have changed their minds.

That's a hoax.  He wasn't talking about white supremacists.  He was referring to the specific people there protesting the tearing down of statues.  What perpetuating fake news.

People who stood next two White Supremacists and wanted to glorify Slavery. Sounds like the same type of people IYAM. If you're protesting something and see people in white hoods next to you, you're a bad person if you don't GTFO.

Complete nonsense.  It's perfectly legitimate to protest the tearing down of statues Taliban fashion, and not be a white supremacist.

The Statue symbolizes a General that fought to ensure slavery soooooo. . . .

And Taliban style is hyperbole as the decision to remove the statue went through a long process.

Quote

By 2016, Wes Bellamy, another Charlottesville city councilor and the city’s vice mayor, had become a champion of efforts to remove Confederate monuments. At a news conference in front of the Lee statue in March of that year, he said the City Council would appoint a commission to discuss the issue.

“When I see the multitude of people here who are so passionate about correcting something that they feel should have been done a long time ago, I am encouraged,” he said to the crowd of residents in front of him. Some clapped. Others shouted, accusing Mr. Bellamy of sowing division.

So what if it did?  You don't tear down history just because you don't like it.  It's a part of the past and deserves to be remembered.  What's next?  Burning books too?  The whole statue thing is absurd.

Kind of like how Germany tried to remove their Nazi heritage.

The Charlotteville protest was organized by a man named Jason Kessler

A devoted White Nationalist.

So who are these non-racist that decided to go to this protest for completely heritage loving reasons?

Like how he's constantly critical of multi-cultrual urban areas with poverty. When the white counties that support him make up some of the poorest places in the US? And he relishes supporting them, but not poor cities?

Didn't realize that, but Trump didn't say that.

He did say "fine people". The debate is who he was referring to.

I'm of the opinion that anyone who took time on their Saturday to stand with White Nationalists were racist, even if they didn't carry Tikki Torches.

Robert E Lee fought for his home state of Virginia and not something else. Lincoln had offered him the top job of commanding the Army of the (soon to be) Potomac...but he refused in order to protect Virginia against invasion...which he did rather well.

Lee had already freed his slaves...unlike numerous Union generals.

But, I imagine you have zero actual understanding of the US Civil War...so meme away.

They’re not the same thing.  I’m against erasing history.  You might not be, and that’s ok.  But it doesn’t make people who are against removing statues white supremacists.    It’s a legitimate point of view to be against the tearing down of particular statues.  Stop perpetuating a hoax.

Again, the rally was organized by White Nationalists.

Robert E Lee was a great man and one of the best generals in military history. Loved by his troops and greatly respected by his Union counterparts.

But they didn’t know who was going to be there a head of time.  So now you’re criticizing people for not being psychic.  Brilliant.  It’s a legitimate protest.  Despite your bias.

I'll repeat this again. It was organized by a White Nationalist. Who did they think was going to be there? Especially considering this happened the night before.

Like all the people at the Charlottesville Rally.

I don't fault you for having no understanding of the events of the US Civil War. Ignorance is common in many areas of history among folks like yourself.
