It's a pretty sad story alright.  If the only way to prevent something like this is to give the government more power to take back people's rights to choose I think you'll find that's the slipperier slope.  If the price of less intrusion into our lives or deaths is an occasional wrenching of one's heart or conscience I think I can live with that.

I just hope they catch the bastards who ruined her life.

What about the hundreds of thousand of survivors of rape/abuse? What kind of message is this sending them? We won't mind if you off yourself, since you are damaged goods.

Whose this "we" you're talking about? It certainly doesn't include me.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Do you think they all want to?

If any of them do, do you think they should be forced to live because to do as they choose makes you uncomfortable?

Yes.

She is 17 for christ sakes!  If one is 73 and has terminal cancer, it would be a valid concern.  Depression is usually not chronic, and suicide has been proven to be the most devastating death to family and friends. Additionally, family members are over 5 times more likely to off themselves if a close family member has died that way.

Well, the one in the OP is/was seventeen, and I think there is some doubt as to whether or not she is actually dead.  I believe the last thing I read about her was that she stopped eating and drinking because she wasn't allowed assisted suicide.  That will be more fun for her and her family, I'm sure.  Will it make you more comfortable?  Or would you have her force fed?

Maybe we should allow students who fail to get into Med school to hang themselves in public too. When will the madness end?

This girl needs to be in a psychiatric ward until she is properly treated for the PTSD she has.  It's amazing, but no surprise that the Left is in favor of this.

At the in public bit?  I can't see that happening.

We quite gleefully pay for abortions by the thousands, and this is for children who did NOT express their wish to die.   So, what's the big deal about one who does\?

I wouldn't have put it quite like that, but you make a good point.  Everyday thousands of people who do not want to die, do so anyway.  Why should we be concerned with letting someone who does want to die do so? A far more tragic outcome would be to force such a person to live on against their will.

Indeed... blessed is the neo-leftist atheist death cult.

Look at it this way, people are unstable and make mistakes in judgement all the time. Leftists are constantly whining things like, "Oh, you won't kill me. It's so unfair!"

Does that mean they deserve to die? No.

They might grow up to be right wingers.

Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

Free will does though.

I think there should be some kind of litmus test, or evaluation. Maybe an arbiter who gets to decide who lives, and who dies.

"Live!" <bangs gavel>

"Die!"  <bangs gavel>

"Die!" ...

IF there was a quote of the day...week...year, etc. THIS would be it.

I do have to concede the point that there needs to be an assessment of soundiness of mind to express said free will.  Without that, it would fall to the state to afford protection to the person (such as SHOULD be the case for unborne children).

Thank you.  I stole most of it from Clint Eastwood.  I have been known to post the video...
