WestCoastRunner Posted October 2, 2016 Report Posted October 2, 2016 Now that Americans can sue Saudi Arabia over terrorist attacks does that leave the U.S. vulnerable to being sued over drone attacks and other incidents? It's a dangerous precedent and sounds like it was simply just a political move resulting in major repurcussions down the road. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/legal-experts-law-allowing-911-families-sue-saudia/story?id=42432568 Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. ?Impact Posted October 2, 2016 Report Posted October 2, 2016 Now that Americans can sue Saudi Arabia over terrorist attacks does that leave the U.S. vulnerable to being sued over drone attacks and other incidents? In Iraqi and Syrian courts none the less. Of course just like the dumb ass Congress, it will be totally meaningless. Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted October 2, 2016 Author Report Posted October 2, 2016 Does anyone actually get any cash? If they have a good lawyer I suspect they would. Are you ok with this if they do receive cash? Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life's a bitch. You've got to go out and kick ass. - Maya Angelou

Of course just like the dumb ass Congress, it will be totally meaningless.Except the US plays an important role in the world financial system and any judgement against Saudi Arabia would mean Saudi Arabia would have to divest all of its US assets. It would probably push Saudi Arabia towards using Euros and Chinese Yuan for its exports. Others could follow suit which would cause significant harm to the US financial industry. Guest Posted October 2, 2016 Report Posted October 2, 2016 If they have a good lawyer I suspect they would. Are you ok with this if they do receive cash? From the Saudis? I can't see it, but sure. They would have to show the Saudis had a hand in 9/11, wouldn't they? If they could do that, why not? But as I said, I can't see it. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 This is election year nonsense. Nothing will come of this. If a Saudi gov is sued, no POTUS would go to bat for the victims to try and gain payment from the Saudis, it's just not going to happen. SpankyMcFarland Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 There are a lot of people in the world who would love to sue the US. Doesn't this set a precedent? Quote ‘How small we make our worlds. Gather them in, tighten them up into little castles of fear.’
Moonlight Graham Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 There are a lot of people in the world who would love to sue the US. Doesn't this set a precedent? Yes, this is exactly why Obama said he vetoed the bill. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.

bush_cheney2004 Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 Or this terrorism suspect from Canada/Syria (depending on who you believe)....Maher Arar. He sued all kinds of U.S. government officials, and got nowhere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maher_Arar#United_States_lawsuit Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
JamesHackerMP Posted October 6, 2016 Report Posted October 6, 2016 The bill was vetoed, but leading members from both parties have threatened an override of the veto.
