Kudos to Justin. Our PM has attended this conference since 2004 (Paul Martin).

This conference is attended by some of the world's biggest technology and media moguls, including Gates, Buffet, Zuckerburg and Bezos.

According to Paul Martin:

"I'm sure that [Trudeau] is going to be the centre of the debate, and deal with the issues he thinks are important, so he will respond to the issues that his audience thinks are important."

Martin said he has confidence in Trudeau's ability to sell Canada to this niche audience.

"He will do very, very well. I've seen him on occasions such as this, and he handles himself with great skill … he'll look upon this audience as one that effectively can carry that message beyond the conference, and he'll do it very well."

This is a great opportunity for Canada to attract business from some very successful individuals.

So who is the attending Canadian technology and media mogul....Justin Trudeau ?

....

Agreed, Justin Trudeau has some talent in the modern art of persuasion. (Paul Martin certainly lacks any such talent.)

But you know what? Neither guy created/produced anything. Neither built a building, invented a screen.

Justin Trudeau and Paul Martin are both juniors; both inherited their wealth/status in various ways. Such is the modern federal Liberal Party.

God help Canada.

Why would you need to have built something to network and grab some investment for Canada? Two different skill sets.

I don't know. Do your own homework.

"Skill sets": the definition of the modern federal Liberal Party.

Gérald Tremblay had a "skill set" too.

Lester Pearson at least was a soldier.

You didn't answer the question.

shhhh! It's a... secret attendance list - apparently, the sponsor, investment bank Allen & Co likes it that way. For someone as obsessed with Canada as you, where Canada is just so important to you, surely you don't have concerns about Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau attending with an aim to solicit investment in Canada - surely, yes?

I did. Tremblay's skill was to speak well, enjoy the applause and then pretend that he didn't know what was going on.

whether your opinion in this regard has any merit... what does it have to do with this thread?

Sorry...I'm sure the Canadian technology moguls, movers, and shakers are out there, but their names just don't seem to roll off the tongue as readily as "Gates, Buffet, Zuckerburg and Bezos". Maybe they are modest.

How about Elon Musk ?

Neither guy created/produced anything. Neither built a building, invented a screen.

That is true of almost 100% of our politicians, of every political affiliation.

Talk about inherited wealth, just look south of the border. Donald Trump had a (actually several) trust fund that was about 40 times larger than Trudeau's. On top of that his daddy arranged directly and indirectly several hundred million in loans for young Donald to play empire building with. Since that time Donald has inherited many millions more.

 are you that starved for attention and so self-doubting that you want someone to reaffirm that the U.S. has, as you say, "technology moguls, movers, and shakers'? It's kind of the nature of the yearly conference... apparently that thingee called networking is done there. Why... I read there's been some real deals cooked up there over the years - lots of investment opportunities. Hey now, isn't that the reason given for Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau's attendance - to attempt to leverage investment back into Canada?

I just can't imagine you congratulating Harper for going to this.

I can't imagine him going.

People there are smart.

He's a snake oil salesman by comparison.

He'd never go there.

Maybe Trudeau can get some more software development jobs like the new ones planned by GM in Oshawa. My experience has been that Canada is a great place for "near shoring" cheaper talent that can't get sponsored in the USA, so they cross border commute electronically from Canada. Next best option before going for that coveted "green card".

Justin steals the show.

http://m.smh.com.au/business/world-business/canadas-pm-justin-trudeau-steals-the-show-at-sun-valley-20160706-gq07qc.html

"But as the first day of proceedings kicked off, it was Canada's prime minister Justin Trudeau who turned out to be the hot ticket, out-charming even comedian Jerry Seinfeld and regal romeo King Abdullah II of Jordan in front of high finance's toughest audience."

"Attendees told US media outlets that 45-year-old Trudeau's talk addressed the role of morality in public service; the entertainment trade newspaper Variety quoted members of the audience who described Trudeau as "hyper-articulate" and "visionary."

why... I just read that the 'hunky heartthrob' was locked up in one-on-one meetings with moguls all yesterday afternoon - moguls, I tells ya! Moguls... with money to spend! No word on whether that list also included any tech-titans! :D

and then there's the official CPC response! Still so bitter.

This can't be good for Canada. Who's paying for his summer camp vacation!

The usual juvenile response from the Ambrose CPC.

I noticed that. Pathetic and petty. Shrugs.

I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

Trudeau is just like many other Canadians who go to seek fortune and investment "south of the border". I am sure he will be back many times.

And so will you.

And so will you.

No, the days when I went "south of the border" was not to seek fortune or investment...just depraved entertainment. Trudeau has made it quite clear that he knows how Canada's bread gets buttered, so he will keep coming back for more butter.
