More examples of the thin blue line.

Tamir Rice's killers will also avoid prosecution. He was the 12 year old that had a toy gun and was killed by police.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/tamir-rice-announcement-1.3382234

A grand jury cleared two Cleveland police officers in the November 2014 fatal shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was brandishing a toy gun in a park, due to a lack of evidence indicating criminal activity, a prosecutor said on Monday. The grand jury for weeks had been hearing testimony on the shooting of Rice, which took place within seconds after police arrived at a park next to a Cleveland recreation centre in response to reports of a suspect with a gun. Rice died the next day.

"It is likely that Tamir, whose size made him look much older and who had been warned that his pellet gun might get him into trouble that day, either intended to hand it over to the officers or show them it wasn't a real gun. But there was no way for the officers to know that because they saw the events rapidly unfolding in front of them from a very different perspective."

It seems Cops can shoot people with impunity in the US and not face punishment.

Has a white kid wielding a pellet gun ever been shot by police? I played with toy guns throughout my childhood. It's a shocking display of racism that a child of colour would be shot for playing with a toy gun.

Here too.

I did too, but my toy guns didn't look very real, and the environment in which I grew up was one where gun violence was largely absent. So no one called the cops saying there were guys with guns running around. I also didn't look older.

That being said, while this has nothing to do with colour in my opinion, it does speak to the sense of paranoia which is deliberately trained into police officers. At the slightest sign of a weapon their guns is out and pointed. I don't think things used to be like that. I don't think cops used to draw their weapons as easily as they do now, and I don't think they were as afraid as they are now.

The U.S. is not Canada...please try to understand this. One would think that after more than two generations of Canadians watching so much American media, it would be obvious by now. FBI records report that U.S. police officers shoot and kill about 400 people per year on average, with or without pellet guns or "visible minority" skin colour.

Tamir Rice did a very stupid thing, and it cost him his life. Don't do that down here, 'cause you will likely be shot by police.

For a nation that cherishes its freedom so much, it seems that many have no problem with police being able to kill people for not committing a crime.

That's correct....we hire and train police officers to deal with people who won't get with the program or present a public threat. People are free to make stupid decisions and police are free to shoot them....lots of "freedom" all around. There is no requirement to commit a crime....do you think stealing a bike would justify a police homicide ?

What crime was Tamir Rice committing? I thought the second amendment allowed you to carry a gun, let alone a fake one.

Concealed and open carry varies by state....regardless, Rice did not comply with police orders to raise his hands while still in possession of a replica gun. Boom goes the dynamite !

He was shot within seconds of the cops leaving the car. Do cops even bother trying to de-escalate situations anymore?

The emergency personnel also did not relay the information to the cops that it may possibly be a toy gun. Lots of blame to go around.

I'm sure some still do....many don't. There is no requirement to become a dead hero.

Goes to my theory that Cops really don't sign up to serve and protect but do so because it's a secure government job that lets them exert authority over people. Here in Canada too BTW. At least in the US there are places that are dangerous.

Meh...it's a job with specific risks and rewards. Police officers serve people all the time, but they get way more attention after shooting perps.

Quebec police shot a teen yesterday....shocking...oh the humanity !!

So the poor kid failed to respect and comply with authoritah immediately.

This sounds like a failure of the education system. Instantaneous submission to police drills should be even more important than duck and cover drills.

I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

Lots of perps manage to obey lawful police orders without ever getting shot...every day.

Gun toting authorities usually want immediate compliance rather than casual indifference.

True but it's pretty clear people are being killed for simply not seeming to understand compliance means NOW not two seconds later.

You need to really reinforce this at an earlier age, hence my suggestion for compliance drills.

And it looks like more education is required when a cop accidentally kills a 55 year old mom. Geez.

Age or reproduction status should have no bearing when toting a deadly weapon. Lots of mental illness too...discussed numerous times here already.

Safety tip: Don't put yourself into a position that invites deadly force.

Tough bounce...there's always some unhappy camper who thinks they are special. "Now!" means...now...not later.

The woman was an innocent bystander. Cops in Chicago need training to quickly determine when not to shoot.

Maybe, but it will still happen. That's why Chicago and other cities pay so much for liability insurance.

When in doubt, shoot !

Why would it get deleted ? Cities make huge payouts all the time for wrongful death lawsuits. Many just settle out of court as the price of doing business. Same thing will happen with this Tamir Rice case.

Cops don't have the luxury of knowing whether a gun being pointed at them is real or fake. The grand jury came to the proper conclusion.

Sure they did.
