Canada_First Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Do we really need to educate you on why blacks are imprisoned more than any other population. Honestly, I thought the reasoning for the incarceration of blacks was well understood. Perhaps I'm wrong and a conversation needs to take place. So blacks aren't killing people? They aren't dealing crack in the inner cities? Are the police just making up the charges as they go along? Quote

Shady Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Take a look at the racial disparity in incarceration in the US. Yes, and there are many factors that are involved. Most paramount, the disintegration of the black family and education. Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Yes, and there are many factors that are involved. Most paramount, the disintegration of the black family and education. How does that explain, for instance, why whites use drugs at a higher rate than blacks but blacks are jailed for drug offenses at a much higher rate. Or why blacks spend nearly as much time in jail for drug offenses as whites do for violent offenses. Pretty hard to explain those kind of stats by simply blaming it on families. Quote

But regardless, areas with the highest crime tend to be watched more vigorously, hence more arrests of blacks. Anyways, this subject has been beaten to death numerous times. kimmy Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 It is about time. How much money are they piddling away, and lives are they ruining, by throwing people in jail who got caught smoking a joint in the wrong state for instance? Many private prisons have been built with occupancy guarantees from governments. The government has to pay a cash penalty to the prison operator for each prison space that goes unused. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
WIP Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) Obama is continuing his legacy. "President Barack Obama next week will become the first sitting President to visit a federal prison, the White House announced Friday." "Obama will visit El Reno Federal Correctional Institution in El Reno, Oklahoma, next Thursday, where he will meet with inmates and law enforcement officials, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said." What is his mandate? "At a news conference last week, Obama said reforming the criminal justice system was a top priority for his remaining time in office." "On Tuesday, Obama will speak at the 106th Annual NAACP Convention in Philadelphia, where Josh Earnest said the President will outline "injustice" in the system and highlight ideas for reform." Again, good for him. About time! It's already been asked, but what the hell has he been doing during his eight years in office? Especially when he first took the controls of government and had a Democratic Party-controlled Congress! On his way out the door, Obama is the same person he was when he was handpicked by billionheiress - Penny Pritzker (a major behind the scenes player among the rich and powerful in Chicago) and introduced to Goldmann-Sachs execs and the Wall Street crowd, as a candidate who would look after the interests of the rich and powerful, regardless of whatever rhetoric came out of his mouth! So, here he goes...riding off into the sunset, making a bunch of speeches and introducing legislation (which has no hope in hell of passing) in order to try to leave behind some kind of populist legacy, while he will be richly rewarded for his services on behalf of the oligarchs....especially pushing through TPP, TISA and TTIP, which will usher in a brave new world where international corporations and banks have veto power over the nation states of the world. That should be the Obama Legacy (along with continuing the Bush legacy of using military to leverage US international interests) - the man who pushed through the last steps to rule by oligarchy, and not making pointless speeches on not PR at a federal prison, when he is the man who had the power to do something about the growing Prison Industrial Complex, and did nothing! May he rot in hell! Edited July 12, 2015 by WIP Quote Anybody who believers exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist. -- Kenneth Boulding, 1973
