Canada_First
With religion. It's adherents are brainwashed into thinking certain things. Day after day it's pounder into your head. If you're taught these things from birth it's going to have an effect. It's no excuse as people know right from wrong but it's a good reason. Aren't all these things environmental ? Can't you just pick an answer ?
Canada_First
Gender and race are different ? Aren't all these things environmental ? Can't you just pick an answer ? Yes it's different. Being a certain gender isn't enough by itself to become a rapist. Anymore than being a certain a race predisposed to committing crimes. Being a rapist isn't a gentic trait to be passed down. People have choices to make. Personal responsibility trumps all.

cybercoma
When you think of the frequency with which people blame the person vs the environment that somebody would suggest some principle by which we could all consider such things. If you want to blame the environment then rapists, terrorists, criminals are all blameless. If you want to blame the individual then race, religion, gender has nothing to do with it. Pick one or the other people. Who blames the environment? The environment can predict and explain outcomes, but these things are not predestined. You're vastly oversimplifying the relationship between people and society. It's not one or the other ever. It's both at the same time and influencing each other. I'm not taking the position I characterized, so I'm not oversimplifying anything.
