Windows 10 coming out in July 2015

I bought Win 8 when it came out, and spent an additional $5 to buy 3rd party software to customize it, and I found it was hands down the best OS I have run on any of my computers. XP was buggy like a Mexican bordello... Vista and 7 better... but Wiindows 8 ran flawlessly. I'm hoping for more of the same from Windows 10.

Windows 10 works well without Stardock but:

1. Create a fake hotmail account unless you want Microsoft to track/sell your every click.

2. Live with OneCloud, or whatever Bill Gates is now calling your contribution to existence. (If you choose to live outside the MS version of Facebook, you will suffer daily splash screens to login.)

3. "Control Panel" is now "Settings", and you can't monitor upgrades. Windows 10 is a wannabe iOS.

Microsoft really, REALLY wants you to upgrade to Windows 10.

Since last summer, the tech giant has pushed and prodded PC owners to upgrade their machines to its latest Windows version. While the upgrade is currently free for most consumers with Windows PCs, critics say the company’s heavy-handed nudging amounts to an “offer you can’t refuse.”

Microsoft initially offered Windows 10 as an optional upgrade — that is, one that users had to choose themselves. Then, earlier this year, the company reclassified it as a “recommended” update. Some Windows 10 holdouts cried foul, since many PCs are set up to automatically install recommended updates, which are usually important security fixes. Suddenly those machines would automatically install Windows 10 as well.

Other than being skeptical of anything Microsoft does, I don't see why people wouldn't want Windows 10, especially for desktop purposes. It's not great for tablets like Windows 8 was, but wasn't that the big complaint in the first place?

I just got a new laptop with Window 10, it's pretty intuitive actually, no need for the Program Files folder anymore as all programs show up in the "Start" Menu popup.

I just got a new laptop with Windows 10 as well and I think it's great. Reminds me a lot of Windows 7. I've had no problems whatsoever. I get the privacy issues that people don't like, but other than that, I really don't see what all the fuss is about.

Control Panel is still there along with all features that are in Windows 7. Search for 'Control Panel' and pin it to the Start Menu for fast access.

Ah so if you want to get rid of the WIn 10 icon updates search for the GWX Control Panel .. handy tool.

I've only been exposed to WIn 10 via my job, and there are some issues with compatibility with older programs (as expected). Another issue is profiles get corrupted and the fix is a bit more involved than with 8 or 7.

One nice thing I have seen is that if you want to revert back to 8 or 7, you have 30 days to do so, and the reversion is quite flawless. After 30 days, that is no longer an option.

For the first time we are seeing Windows updates also taking care of driver updates along with firmware updates. That is actually quite good as looking for firmware updates on some hardware can be lengthy.

My personal choice, sticking with Win 7.

I don't believe this. I was working right now and then my computer just restarted and it installed Windows 10 even though I rejected it a million times.

- iOS, Android, and Windows too: Quit your bitching and upgrade already --- Waiting until you have a catastrophic failure or a major security event to upgrade your system is never a best practice.

- Never10: A new tool for turning off Microsoft's Windows 10 update --- There's a new free utility available for 'normals' who don't want their Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs and tablets to automatically update to Windows 10.

My gripe is that things shouldn't be forced onto users if we're under the impression that we said already said no.

Also I would like to think that I'm slightly above average (ever so slightly) when it comes to computers and if I wasn't aware of having to take these extra steps what about all those unsuspecting people who really don't know their way around beyond opening a browser and surfing the sites they want? Oh well, screw them they should've read the geek news and turned off the updates?

Not to mention Friday 4:00! I right in the middle of wrapping up my week. I was unable to finish my project because of everything going poof for 1.5 hours.

Seriously I can't believe anyone would defend that kind of business practices.

did you get caught in the 'Red X' shifto-chango? Where the "typical dialog" changed such that within the upgrade dialog, selecting the Red X wasn't making a No/Exit choice... it was simply making a Close Window choice. If so, gotcha! I do believe, in recent days, Microsoft has changed that "untypical" dialog behaviour given... complaints.

I don't mind the software, I planned on upgrading anyway, it was the way they did it that pissed me off. It was Friday afternoon, I was almost wrapped up and going out that night and with an hour left of my work everything shut down. Way to start the weekend.

I've talked to several people and it seems a lot of people had it happen. Even IT people way more versed than me when it comes to computers had it forced on them as they were in the middle of their work.

I lost some unsaved work and some links were off but nothing major as far as I can see. Still, they could've at least done it at 2:00am or something.
