The cat's officially out of the bag. Global Warming/Climate Change is not about stopping an imminent warming apocalypse - it's about transforming the world's economies. Draw your own conclusions - but this unelected body of nobodies has been given a free ride for far too long. It's downright scary - and I don't scare easily. The media better wake up soon.

"This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model, for the first time in human history", Ms Figueres stated at a press conference in Brussels.

"This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the industrial revolution. That will not happen overnight and it will not happen at a single conference on climate change, be it COP 15, 21, 40 - you choose the number. It just does not occur like that. It is a process, because of the depth of the transformation."

Four goals

Figueres, however, pointed out that the legal treaty is only one of four important parts of the process. In addition to the treaty, there are the current Climate Change actions from now and until 2020, the financing packages and the so-called Intended National Determined Contributions (INDCs). These are the actions that countries intend to take under a global agreement from 2020 and have to be publicly outlined before the start of the conference. It is expected that all major economies will deliver their plans in time: the US, China, and the European Union have already shown their cards.

O but climate alarmism, that's all 100% real and necessary.

This is pretty much a bogeyman thread. "Cat's out of the bag" implies some kind of secret agenda... New World Order or something I'm guessing...

The economies of the world do change, and will continue to change due to new energy sources, new capital flows, lots of reasons. No need to be afraid.

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !

Anyone who thinks limiting the effects of climate change can be accomplished without changes in the way our economies work is dreaming. Better to have a plan than just try and make it up as you go along.

Duh.

Did you or anyone ever believe these AGW fairy tales?

  • Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location?
  • The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

Transferring wealth to Fourth World kleptocrats is really going to fix anything? Dream on.

Apparently there are a few on this forum.....the misrepresentations just keep on coming. 2014 - hottest year on record? Nor according to the satellite record - the only record that really matters. 2014 was 6th or 7th hottest. 1998 is still tops in the satellite record. Land temperature readings have been so compromised with "adjustments" over the last 20 years that they have little grounding in reality any more. Why bother investing millions in satellite temperature readings to ensure accuracy if you're not going to make them the gold-standard? Obvious, isn't it?

I even doubt it was that hot.

What I keep on saying, over and over again, is that the "global warming" events allegedly occur in remote areas where measurements are questionable and there is no real history to show the past. Does anyone really know what the weather in Coppermine/Kugluktuk, Northwest Territories, Canada was a century or two ago? Yet we're told that most warming has occurred in the high latitudes. My theory is they tell us that in order to deflect from the fact that weather in places like New York City, San Fransisco, Chicago or London is similar to the past.

No kidding. The trouble is believing that limiting the effects of climate change will result in a worse train wreck than doing nothing.

Doing nothing will wreck the train, the tracks and we'll probably even lose the ties and much of the road bed too.

I wonder how the economies of United States and Canada will address the "Worst-megadroughts-in-1-000-years" that threaten the western portion of the U.S. This paper, to be released soon, discusses the research that was done to draw these conclusions. Among them:

  • Parts of the US will likely face "megadroughts" worse than anything experienced in the past 1,000 years as a result of climate change, researchers have warned.
  • They used tree ring samples and soil moisture measurements to make the comparison with previous eras.
  • The researchers applied 17 different climate models to analyse the future impact of rising average temperatures on the regions, as well as comparing two different global warming scenarios - one with "business as usual" projecting a continued rise in emissions of the greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming and a second scenario in which emissions are moderated.
  • According to the researchers, the effects of CO2 on higher average temperature and the subsequent connection to drying in the Southwest and Great Plains emerge as a "strong signal" across the majority of the models.
  • The latest study joins a raft of research warning that businesses and investors in the region face significant long-term risks as a result of climate impacts.

Interesting, but the U.S. southwest is suppose to be a desert. It was manipulated by dams and irrigation to support agricultural development. U.S. prairies are dotted with circular plots of irrigated farmland. All man-made...not "natural".

Would your answer be to shut down the highways and industry? People call for "action" but never say what the "action" would entail since anyone hearing it would think that the speaker is nuts.

No it's only 97% real...or 84% or something.

Closer to 97 according to the peer reviewed studies. Maybe if we adjust our economies we wont be having thousands of people all of a sudden out of work when somebody like the Saudis decide they want to put us out of business with a flood of cheap oil.

Why would you say that's my answer? I didn't imply that in the slightest.

Then what "action" would you advocate? And while you're at it who pays, and how?

Good answer. None of the alarmists do.

I have no clue.

Then what is the point of calling for "action"? Seems like you are begging politicians to piss away money on pointless gestures to show they are "doing something". I personally think pissing away money to pretend we are doing something is waste because that money could be spent on something useful that actually helps people. Edited by TimG

Did you see anywhere in my post where I was begging politicians to piss away money?
