We get people lining up to overstay and become illegal aliens. Spend your money in Canada...be a patriot !

Please. Some older Canadians like the warmer weather in Florida when it's particularly cold up here, but how many want to live there year round?

"Patriot" is a term that might have special meaning to Americans, but it makes Canadians snicker. In my case, almost all of the money I make comes from the US, so to me it's only fair that I spend at least some of it down there.

Lots of people want to be in Florida year round...like Cubans ! Cold weather is part of Canada....embrace it.

Right....that is what's so funny about this entire thread. American shopping, employment, wintering locations, media, etc. are desired, but our "patriotism" is silly. Patriotism is part of the deal...oh...and Jesus too ! Don't like it...or the passport/NEXUS rules...stay out. There are lots of other nations to visit in the world.

Doesn't make it less silly. I wasn't aware a belief in Jesus was needed to visit America? How do they test this at the border? Have the Americans invented a Jesus Machine? It must not be very hard to pass, they've let me in numerous times.

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find your way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

Is it really worth the drive though?

Apparently it is....you should see the lines at the border crossings !

Is that what the line up is for? I thought people just wanted to see the Peace Arch??

I agree..can't figure it out. Why would so many from the "America Sucks ! "crowd want to cross the border so often...physically...and virtually ?

I'm not convinced that this would be a good idea for Canada, but perhaps, yes, for the United States and Mexico.

Actually it's a better idea for the U.S. and Canada. Our countries have a commonality of history and to an extent form of government and language. Mexico (called "Mexica" in opening post) not so much.

The U.S. is "foreign" turf...that means passport. Do it for sovereignty, border control, identification, etc. Easy cross border shopping for cheaper gas, booze, and smokes is not a good reason.

The relationship and commonalities are strong. Canada's only relationship to 9/11 was to provide hospitality when we closed our skies. We should each keep our independence but foster and maximize people to people contact and business.

In short, I think that the U.S. and Canada should have a 100 km/62.8 mph border.

Has nothing to do with 9/11. The history, real estate, and population from Mexico is stronger.

You have a great sense of humor.

In 50 years, we could very well have a NA-Euro union and that would be fine with me.

Be a disaster for citizens of North America and Europe though.

As we see the EU having multiple issues economically speaking.

Yes harmonization of immigration policy has been an unmitigated disaster. Shared currency has been as well.

The shared currency of the EU(thought they have members who do not use the Euro) has not been an unmitigated disaster, far from it. Nearly all mebers have gained from having a joint currency.

The greatest challenge before the EU is fiscal policy. If the EU is to move forward, they need a bunch of members to be willing to surrender more soveriegnty than they already have. Many are balking.
