cybercoma Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 With the recent and significant drop in fuel prices, it will be interesting to see what kind of profit Canada Post turns this quarter. Quote
Boges Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 With the recent and significant drop in fuel prices, it will be interesting to see what kind of profit Canada Post turns this quarter. Many of these Canada Post vans I see puttering around town say they're hybrids. Quote
PIK Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 And the taxi charges. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
Big Guy Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 I understand that this year Santa will be dropping off the presents at strategically places bins in community centres. overthere Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 It's been said in this thread that it is, because of Purolator. The parcel service is subsidizing the daily mail delivery. Purolator does not share their business, facilities or money with Canada Post. They compete with CP parcel delivery. Daily mail delivery in the form of first class mail is profitable, but the volumes are in a downward death spiral for reasons noted above. It is obvious to CP that one of their major costs in a declining business is door-to-door delivery, so they are eliminating much of that cost. They have aready reduced sortation costs greatly, much of it is automated at large postal facilities. Onlne shopping means increased parcel traffic, and Canada Post is in pretty good shape for dealing with that business line. They have two carriers(internal and Purolator), and modern handling facilities across the country. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Smallc Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Purolator does not share their business, facilities or money with Canada Post. That's not entirely true being as Puralator is a wholly owned subsidiary. Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Has been for years. A friend used to work for CP. I mentioned to him one time I was using Purolator to send some Xmas parcels back east, joking I couldn't afford what CP charges. He informed me in all likelihood CP would handle those packages for at least a portion of the journey. Quote

Purolator International offers logistics services for shipments between the United States and Canada. The company is non-asset based and partners with many transportation providers for deliveries between the U.S. and Canada. Purolator also use Fed Ex and vice versa, and not just for international deliveries.. It is not uncommon for courier companies to carry each others parcels for some of the trip. Purolator union is the Teamsters. Canada Post has a few of their own, mostly CUPW and PSAC public sector unions. Canada Post has to be pretty careful with how they handle Purolator for a specific reason : NAFTA. Companies like FedEx and UPS and DHS watch the operations of both like hawks. If there is anything beyond an arms length relationship between CP and Purolator, there will be trouble. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
