I know. I've argued with DoP's approach to Islam myself. I don't agree that any Muslim who is against the excesses of the religion is not a Muslim. While I bow to his knowledge of the book, I just don't think the book matters. The only thing that matters is interpretation, and self identification.

Set me straight. What is Islam's message to the world?

Oh wait.... They can't do that? Well, maybe they should strive for a democracy so they can have some say in who controls their country's destiny.

Iran tried that and we took it away from them.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

yes, I get that. The west has set democracy in Iran back decades. Hopefully we've progressed from that point as well.

The post directly above your's suggests otherwise.

Yes and setting it back decades in Iran has very likely helped set it back centuries throughout the rest of the region as a result.

No Iranians involved in the Coup. Just fellows with 00 numbers.

Liar. I never said anything of the sort.

My decades comment may have been optimistic. Many decades might be better.

So individuals should suicide bomb foreign military in Turkey? A member of NATO?

You do realize that you are promoting the use of violence as a political tactic, don't you?

Well, I'd expect them to ask us to leave first. They would only need to resort to violence if we refused.

Beats me. I don't care. I only care what other people think it is.

Who are you leaning towards and why?

If Allah wills it.

Thus the issue: what is peaceful Islam? I know historical Islam...Battle of Lepanto...Siege of Vienna...9/11.

I don't care about Islam, I care about Muslims. Islam doesn't do anything, Muslims do stuff.

I don't really understand the question.

The interpretation of a religious edict is all that matters, not the edict itself. I someone wants to worship a God while realizing that what that God purportedly had to say on various issues was 99% bullshit, I'm okay with it.

Islam is the ideology. Muslims are the cult members. Islam outlives its members.

You can say the same about any religion. They just don't all act on a literal interpretation. Interpretation is the only difference.

The singer, not the song.

The difference between the Quran and the Bible is that is is the VERY word of Allah as dictated to Muhammad.

The Bible's only claim to divinity in script is Jesus's words (in red). And he's a peaceful fellow.

Again, I don't see how that matters. Isn't the Book of Mormon the same thing? It doesn't make them any less idiots, notwithstanding the lack of murder and mayhem among that particular cult.

As there never was an Allah, the Quran can't be his very word, can it? Still made up by men, just like all the rest.

It matters as the Quran has a verse from Allah telling Muslims his word is unalterable. Perfect.

You don't reform perfect.

And don't let your own incredulity get in the way: Muslims believe in the Quran's divinity.

My point exactly. There are those who don't. Or we'd all be dead. Or they would.
