 is there a relative murder-by-weapon comparative numbers measure that suggests when a Canadian thread is needed/appropriate... for knives or guns?

No, just simply addressing a certain poster who would really like to see a Canadian knife thread but seems to lack any ambition to do so. But I guess one would rather complain about the lack of, in a thread regarding Americans than actually creating one.

But again I shall remind everyone that my OP was pointing to mental conditions.

of course, Americans falsely interpreting the intent of that amendment... and using that false interpretation to fuel an agenda, is the crux of their problem. If only those 'framers' had added 5 simple words:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms when serving in the Militia shall not be infringed."

I don't think those five words are necessary. The first four words accomplish the same thing.

Some people like Glocks and high-powered weapons for similar reasons that people like lots of things. It's a harmless diversion for almost every enthusiast..

Elsewhere, both Kimmy and Derek (both of whom support restrictions, btw) have argued quite convincingly on the subject. I remember a strong and reasoned argument from BC_2004 on the subject, too.

For the record, and to be clear, I do agree that there is a gun problem (or problems, plural). But surely each restriction (or lack thereof) should be looked at discretely and rationally.

Exactly, and to add, a fitting response to said problem should start with examining the sociological climate that creates said problem.

Of course. You with your extensive constitutional law background know more about the interpretation of the constitution than any of the supreme court justices over the last 200 years.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Some people on this board are on record as believing that Supreme Court justices are too politically active and making mistakes interpreting their constitution.

The US definitely has a handgun problem with too many available to all sorts of people. Criminals have them but there are also lots of other people carrying them and that results in shootings. Their statistics can't be wrong. In my opinion it's an indication of cowardice when people get into a verbal spat and somebody is carrying a gun. The gun comes out and somebody ends up shot dead. Not to mention guns going off in children's faces because they're left lying around for children to pick up and play with.

But Shady has a bit of a point on guns not being the whole problem. A lot of the problem is an attitudinal problem with Americans. It's impossible for them to take killing people in foreign lands so lightly and not let that attitude seep into domestic and civilian life. Americans have largely dehumanized their victims over there and it's carried over to 'over here'. Gooks, ragheads, Muslims, choose your war and there will be a derogatory term coined for the victim's people, as well as a proclamation that their leader is 'insane'.

We Canadians need only listen to their rhetoric as the pro-gun Americans support the ongoing slaughter by guns. Where are their comments voicing concern for the little children who needlessly die in their schools? Their immediate response is to hold a NRA rally in the town where the children died.

That's not Canada and we must never let it become that.

Yea, pretty much what Canadians have done in its many wars as well, or to those who speak another language at home. So special....to be stabbed in Canada instead of the United States.
