They were the same. It was pretty clear that they were the same.

So did they ban him because he found a loophole and made a fool of them or because he was truly disrupting the forum without adding value or because he pissed off a long term member. That is the question in my mind.

No, it's against the rules:

Multiple Member Accounts

Any member who opens more than one member account -- for whatever reason -- will be immediately banned from the forums.

Well there you go. Although I already knew that. My issue mostly is with a long term member who kept insinuating the issue because of his crybaby whining.

It's against the rules - it's that simple.

Yes I understand that. Heaven forbid we break rules

Rules are typically made to be broken when they right a wrong.

If you disagree with the rules you should probably take that up with the site owners regarding their policies rather than accusing a particular member of getting someone else banned. How is it someone else's fault if a member breaks the rules and is banned for it?

A whiny member continuously complains and insinuates another member is breaking rules for no other reason then that member disagrees with his posts.

At the very least, we need to be fair here. Regardless if rules are broken.

Irrelevant if a member has violated a prime directive - multiple accounts.

Attacking other members does not materially change this fact and resulting action(s). My understanding is that moderators do not ban members....that is done by the site owner after being advised/informed. It is not done lightly.

Fair enough. I'm just drawing attention to the gods.

I know the moderation is not transparent and I know Argus can be difficult, but for argument's sake, let's say they had proof that the two members were the same.

At that point do you think the member should be allowed to stay even though the rule clearly states that banning is the end result of multiple accounts?

Do you really think those two members bring negativity to the forum? If the answer is yes, then I suppose so.

I do. I'm totally shaking my fist at OGFT.

Good for you. I am too. He doesn't deserve to be banned.

I don't agree with multiple IDs however I also don't agree with outright ban either. There needs to be some tolerance.

Membership bans for multiple accounts is standard protocol for many web sites or member forums. It really requires a zero tolerance policy to be effective, because some people will always try to game the system.

One can debate forum moderation, but this rule has been clearly communicated before.

Yes I get that. I am challenging MLW to address that. Rules are meant to be challenged.

And I would think that ogft is not a professional troll. Let's get real here. He is not a professional troll like you.

I don't think you understand, but still persist in personal attacks against other members like this one.

Perhaps this is another challenge to forum rules ? Good luck with that.....

Heh. Ok. The difference between you and me is that I don't care if I get banned. Edited by WestCoastRunner

I didn't complain about OGFT - at least lately - or Rotary, but clearly I didn't like either persona since both personas were extremely hostile and insulting towards me.

I appreciate every member who engages in intelligent, "reasonably" respectful discussion. OGFT rarely did, on the topics in which we engaged.

Yes, it was obvious they were the same as they acted in precisely the same way towards me and everyone else. He made no secret of it, so i mocked him for it. So what? Am I supposed to be nice to him?

I would suggest that if he got banned it wasn't just for having duplicate accounts. The moderators tend to be fairly laid back about that sort of thing judging from past history. But if you make it damned obvious then they'd have to say something. How you react to that would probably govern what they'd do then. I suspect most of those who have been banned in the past, aside from spammers, got their backs up and got snotty and insulting with the moderators in PMs.

Think of it as cursing at the ref after he calls a penalty on you. That tends to get you a worse penalty, or thrown out of the game entirely. If you apologize and promise not to do it again, well, probably you serve your 2 minutes and start over.

He'll be back anyway, with a new nom de plume. And like Mr. Canada it will probably be fairly obvious who he is because he'll behave the same insulting way. And if he isn't too much of an A-hole the refs might choose to overlook the similarity.

And as for that 'whiny member' bit, how many times have you whined and threatened to leave?

He got banned because of long time members.

You don't KNOW why he got banned. You are making assumptions. It's likely the duplicate accounts were part of the reason, but probably not the whole reason.

You are a bully.

The facts would suggest otherwise. I converse with most people here in a civilized fashion. The only people I get pushy with are the ones who get pushy with me.

You're generally pretty civil and one of the few conservatives who I can discuss issues with without banging my head against the screen but don't kid yourself, you can be tiffy without provocation.

Perhaps. I try not to. I sometimes react to people's attitude towards things I believe in - though I should even then remain polite. Then too, I'm a very fast typist and a very fast reader, and if I've just responded to a string of snotty, insulting posts with my own comebacks it can be easy to fall into a pattern even if I'm dealing with a different person.

I am one of those who believe there is little point in a discussion forum if everyone agrees with me. I never did go in much for Free Dominion, for example, and can't for the life of me understand why anyone would bother with Rabble. If all the lefties disappeared from here it would be pretty boring (and I don't consider lefty to be a pejorative, so much as handy term).
