Black Dog Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 How so ? For the men, it is just a highly paid professional's all-star game. Yawn..... What does this even mean? Like it would be better if they had crappier players instead of the best ion the world? BTW, American tears are delicious. Quote

Yes I would, same for the Olympic basketball games. Amateurs only...old school please. I can watch NHL hockey whenever I want...don't need Olympics for that. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

As for the NHL comparison...the Olympic are what would happen if you contracted the NHL to like 6 teams. Creme de la creme. Quote

Well of course you'll have to agree, they (along with others) have endorsement deals, sponsorship deals. Hell Shauns a millionaire. Amateurs...pfffft Now what? guyser Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Sweden winning this tournament would bring the very sport into disrepute. Not in the least You know they have been favoured for some time now right? Does Selanne have one more Oly's in him? Hell , he'll only be what 45 for Korea? Quote
-TSS- Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Two previous champions taking on each other. Perhaps this is what the media loves. Quote

Black Dog Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Yes...but there are no more Soviets. Let the amateurs organize and practice as needed. "Amateur" is a pretty meaningless term these days. I would go so far as to say it's obsolete. Ain't no such animal anymore. Hence my reference to an 'All-Star Game'. All that's missing is the stupid fights. Except unlike the All Star game, this is a best-on-best where teams actually give a crap about the result. Completely different story. Quote

Wilber Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Sweden winning this tournament would bring the very sport into disrepute. Why? It's the final in a tournament with three knockout rounds, anything can happen. Does a blowout or upset in a Football or Rugby World Cup throw those sports into disrepute? They use the same format. Wilber Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Guess defense does win games. We have been bemoaning the Canadian's lack of goal production compared to the Americans, not paying much attention to the fact they have only allowed 3 goals in 5 games. But then again, we have been in situations before where we had firepower galore and walked through parts of tourneys to only get beaten by sound defence . But this game wasnt defence as much as the CDNS just kept on pressing and keeping the puck to themselves. When the D was needed, oh they were there ready to go. Quote
Boges Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) As I thought, the Canadians D overmatched the US offense. Kessel can't dominate when he has to go up against 3 top pairings. The bad news is Sweden has a great defense too. Edited February 22, 2014 by Boges Quote
WestCoastRunner Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 I listened to the game on cbc radio while working. Not the same as watching on tv. But I just might get up to watch the 4 am game on Sunday. Should be a great game. Any players on the swedish team that are in the nhl? Boges Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Any players on the swedish team that are in the nhl? Most if not all of them. Many play for Detroit. Including the hated Daniel Alfredson. The goalie is arguably the best in the league: Lunqvist from NY. Eric Karelson for the Sens is a great point shooting defenceman. And don't forget the healthy Sedin. Edited February 22, 2014 by Boges Quote
