Sunni militants linked to al-Qaeda are reportedly still in control of parts of two cities in western Iraq. Fierce fighting continues as government troops try to force militants aligned to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) from Ramadi and Fallujah. A leader of a tribal militia fighting alongside government forces says that more than 60 jihadists have been killed in or near Ramadi. Clashes erupted on Monday after troops dismantled a protest camp in the city. Local Sunni Arabs had been demonstrating for months against what they perceive as discrimination by the Shia-led government and unfair targeting of their minority community by anti-terrorism measures implemented to stem the surge in sectarian violence. But Prime Minister Nouri Maliki ordered that the sit-in be cleared, alleging it had "turned into a headquarters for the leadership of al-Qaeda". I think they could use some more freedom. Quote

The US, Al Queda, the leaders of the African countries that have the oil, the word is, it's getting nasty fight to get the oil, so Africa will be the lead country for wars in 2014. Quote

But, like Vietnamization...handing the war over to the Iraqi army will simply not work. Fallujah fell to al-Qaeda this weekend, for example. One main reason was to get Al-Queda out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Let's just call that a fail. They never left. And now they are causing a lot of trouble. In fact I'd say the US helped Al-Queda by taking out hardliners like Saddam. But, some would interpret that as me supporting terrorism. Men like Saddam would have taken care of this issue. Why not just use drones like the US is doing elsewhere. This was expected to happen. Take out Saddam, disband the military, try a new government, it has issues, cannot maintain security (see disbanding of army and police) and now has another Al-Queda problem. What's interesting is that a great part of the objection to the war, from the start, was of the probabilities of terrible, unintended consequences...like, oh, for example, sectarian bloodshed....which occurred; the rise of terrorist violence.....well, lookee there; and the eventual threat of extremist Islamists taking advantage of the chaos to insert themselves into (at least) regional powers... ....and of course, as we all remember well, the little geniuses who supported and defended the war derided all these warnings as wildly implausible...... Well, I take no pleasure form the incompetence of the war's architects, nor from the monumental servility of the their defenders. It's been one sad tragedy after another. Good job.
