For most of recorded history, mankind's best efforts in the arts and architecture have gone toward paying tribute to whichever gods they worshiped. It should not surprise anyone that religion has inspired great works of art in many cultures.

I'm not aware of any great Muslim, Buddhist or Hindu painters, sculptors, or composers. I think much of Islam thinks music is evil, and painting or sculpting images of people is sinful.

It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy

Really?

Islamic Art

Buddhist Architecture

Buddhist Art

For Hinduism, Raghurajpur is an entire city devoted to Hindu art and architecture.

Growing up in the West, your idea of Great may be a bit skewed towards Judeo-Christian art and architecture.

Key words in bold. Despite their varied flaws, almost all cultures have produced great works of art of various kinds.

Again...the claim is religion specifically rather than a given culture...and that Christianity seems to excel at it over other religions. See link. Not that other religions are devoid of it. But, hey...it's much more fun this way...lol. Certain members are quick to play the ol' straw-man card...for sure. Well conditioned by their multicultural upbringing.

I'm not aware of any either... I'm a white guy on the west coast of Canada. But I'm not arrogant or stupid enough to think that culture, architecture and art belongs to only one religion.

Let google be your tool to expand your limited horizons...

Is that another way of saying you can't find that Islamic or Hindu Handel, either?

Google seems hard and confusing. Do you type a word somewhere or what??

:P

No. I didn't look...

Let us know what you find...

No...it's up to you since you're going all PC on me. Show me that famous Islamic Ramadan number that gets hauled out during the holidays. Show me ANYTHING. My claim remains. You can't support your silly notion of across the board feel-goodiness. I win. You lose.

What claims did I make? None.

So I am supposed to prove something to you that I didn't claim? lol I'll get right on it...

Two days later, despite having been on the forum and posting, he still hasn't responded. But it really goes without saying that the only person who has been whining and complaining for the past week is Shady (and socialist) about atheists.

Check the sidebar (go and view all) to see how less Shady really cares about atheists.

No need. I'm already enjoying your defeat.

OK.. victory is your's...

Christianity is the epitome of culture, music and architecture... because, living in Canada, you never hear any Muslim songs or see any Buddhist architecture... LOL

Well...you can't find one. I accept your defeat, suh. You may keep your sabre and sidearm.

Religions are also really good at destroying art and sculptures that they don't agree with. :)

Happy New Year

Richard Dawkins believes the war against religion is being won.

With all due respect to Richard Dawkins, this statement is laughable:

"You do not have to be reticent in what you say. You do not have to look around and say, 'I hope I am not offending anyone'. You can pretty much speak your mind now in a way that you could not 50 years ago."

It's too bad that he and others actually believe that a war on religion is needed or justified, it is sad. If people need religion to help them get through a tough life more power to them. Different strokes for different folks, unless of course they want to kill you for not believing.

I'm not so sure he said anything about a "war" at all...

In a way, he's right. Atheists aren't nearly as oppressed as they once were.
