guyser Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 Your outrageous claim that "Harper was on bended knee asking for daddy to employ him at Esso" as opposed to your support of JT's vast experience.Um....no , not at all. I was laughing at the post where Haprer did sooooo much, and JT little. Harper had daddy employ him for quite some time, then left for the non-working faction of society. But hey, he has an Eco degree so he has that going for him. IT helped him learn how to fudge figures. Quote

I dont say muh about JT for obvious reason, but man, you guys keep going on and on ad naseum....like you are scaredy pants ! JT has had a bit of a charmed life, no doubt. But Steve Harper certainly has led much the same , just more anonymously. He did get hired @ Imperial oil (Esso) which his dad was at, here in TO and then daddy landed him anuother gig in Calgary, you know, when he failed out of UofT after 2 months. So really......not a whole lot different as you guys are trying to make of it. But knock your socks off, it is fun to watch. Quote

And what is a protected life?Pik should have realized he is praising JT.All the while slaggin Steve Harper. Wonk. a studious or hardworking person. "any kid with an interest in science was a wonk" • a person who takes an excessive interest in minor details of political policy. "he is a policy wonk in tune with a younger generation of voters" Good on ya pik, JT is a hard working studious person. Edited May 5, 2014 by Guyser2 Quote

PIK Posted May 6, 2014 Author Report Posted May 6, 2014 Got me there. But still me calling him a wonk means noithing. And how does harper rate the same. He did not live the silver spoon life. Yes his father might have got him a job, like most fathers will try and do for their kids, but the kicker here boys,is trudeau did not need to have a job. And like I said trudeau was the one that said he worked as bar tender and he quit after 2 shifts becauser it was to hard. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

Boges Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Not terribly Open or Inclusive behaviour from JT. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/anti-abortion-candidates-need-not-apply-in-2015-justin-trudeau-says-1.2634877 Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says all candidates running for nomination to represent the Liberal Party in 2015 will have to support the party's pro-choice position, but that the same rule does not apply to sitting MPs. "I have made it clear that future candidates need to be completely understanding that they will be expected to vote pro-choice on any bills," Trudeau said Wednesday following his party's weekly caucus meeting in Ottawa. Trudeau said that rule, however, does not apply to current members of Parliament because they were vetted under a different nomination process. "The existing MPs ... will be respected to a certain extent in their choices, but our position as a party is we do not reopen that debate," Trudeau told reporters. The Liberal leader said it is part of the screening process to ask candidates where they stand on a number of issues, ranging from same-sex marriage to abortion. If JT really had conviction on this issue he's remove all Pro-Life Liberal MP's from caucus too. Edited May 7, 2014 by Boges Quote
cybercoma Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 This is why I can't vote for them.Because you're anti-choice? Quote
Smallc Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) No, because they're anti choice...abortion is something, that even as an atheist, I struggle with. It's really not my business though and is between a woman, a doctor, and her conscience. Edited May 7, 2014 by Smallc Quote
cybercoma Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 How are they anti-choice? Trudeau is saying that Liberal candidates should actually believe in individual liberty. The options are those who believe in choices and those who are against people choosing for themselves. Quote
Smallc Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) You know that the people who are against abortion aren't doing it for the reasons you're implying. It's not because they're against women choosing, it's because they are against ending what they see as a life...for them there is no choice. Apparently, people that believe this, can't choose to be Liberals. Edited May 8, 2014 by Smallc Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 I don't think anybody likes the idea of abortion. The reality is they are going to happen. I would certainly prefer they happened in a clinical setting as opposed to a back alley. Quote

It's not because they're against women choosing, it's because they are against ending what they see as a life...for them there is no choice. Apparently, people that believe this, can't choose to be Liberals. They're against people making their own reproductive choices. Full stop. If someone does not want to be pregnant, any legislation that gets in the way of abortion legally forces them to remain pregnant against their will. This is a violation of the sanctity of the body. It doesn't matter whether or not you consider it a legal person. It doesn't matter whether or not you consider it a human being (even though the vast majority of scientists agree that a blastocyst is not yet a human being, despite what Shady thinks). A person's body is not subject to the use of another against that person's will. You can't be legally compelled to donate a kidney, even if you were at fault for injuring someone else. You can't be compelled to get pregnant against your will. And thankfully today you can't be compelled to remain pregnant against your will either. There is nothing wrong with Trudeau saying this is the party's stance and anyone getting the nomination will be expected to vote this way. If he's making it one of the fundamental policies of the party then there's nothing wrong with letting possible candidates know that ahead of time. Quote

Smallc Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 I'll simply say this. I'm in favour of allowing unrestricted abortion up until a certain point, but it isn't an easy subject, and I can see how some people, especially given certain convictions, could be against it. I think this is the wrong move. Quote

I'm in favour of allowing unrestricted abortion up until a certain point, but it isn't an easy subject, and I can see how some people, especially given certain convictions, could be against it. I think this is the wrong move. That's why every other Western country has had a civilized debate, made compromises, and enacted legislation that satisfies the vast majority of their citizens. European Union Most countries in the European Union allow abortion on demand during the first trimester. After the first trimester, abortion is allowed only under certain circumstances, such as risk to woman's life or health, fetal defects or other specific situations that may be related to the circumstances of the conception or the woman's age. For instance, in Austria, second trimester abortions are allowed only if there is a serious risk to physical health of woman (that cannot be averted by other means); risk to mental health of woman (that cannot be averted by other means); immediate risk to life of woman (that cannot be averted by other means); serious fetal impairment (physical or mental); or if the woman is under 14 years of age. Some countries, such as Denmark, allow abortion after the first trimester for a variety of reasons, including socioeconomic ones, but a woman needs an authorization to have such an abortion Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_law#National_laws Quote Back to Basics
Boges Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 It really shouldn't a debate about Abortion, but should Liberal MPs be allowed to have that view. I don't think any reasonable person thinks Abortion Laws are going to be brought back, BUT I think it's not reasonable to demand that people agree with abortion. Quote

I think this is the wrong move. But its the right move if you want to prevent people from feeling conflicted later on should your party find itself faced a vote on abortion. If you don't want to risk being put into that position then join or form another party that is open to the idea. This seems the most transparent up front way of dealing with the issue. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
Boges Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 The thing is, the Liberals are a "supposed to be" a centrist party. Meaning some are religious and some do oppose Gay Marriage and Abortion. JT is moving them to the left here by simple fact of banning candidates that have opinions he finds distasteful. It's the opposite of the Big Tent philosophy that allowed the CPC top win. There were a few Centrist Liberals in the 905 that lost to the CPC in 2011. With this move to the left can those ridings be won again? Quote
