Moonlight Graham
You don't seem to understand that the war didn't need the US to start or continue. The NVA had zero interest in a cease fire in 1968 or in 1972. That was my whole point, ie: nothing major would have come from the peace talks. The country had been in civil war long before major US involvement.

There was never a "unified Viet-Nam" before now and there's several dozen tribes/groups/kingdoms NOT mentioned in either the Viet nor the Nam part of the name that call the Indochina area home. Yes....and my town has the Hmong to prove it. Also, there were several other pro Saigon nations fighting the war in a big way, including Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and the PI. Back in the late 70's, Olivia Newton John told our concert committee to go to hell because she wouldn't perform for a bunch of 'war mongers' ....which of course just made us love her even more ! (We got Fleetwood Mac instead.)

According to Wiki there are 54 ethnic groups and 8 major languages with the Kinh-Viet now making over 80% after the expulsions/ethnic cleansings post-war.
